Default NA 6 Speed possible?

Would an STI 6 speed transmission bolt up to a 2.5i and would there be any benefits from doing this?

I wouldn't say problems. It's quite a bit heavier than your 5mt, and has better ratios, but the weight will probably cancel that out. If you want to improve your awd, get some limited slips.

It'll bolt up just fine, but you'll need other parts as well.

I have an '06 6-speed in my car. I bought it a while back to install with the EZ30R that I also have, but the engine swap hasn't happened yet. The 2nd gear in my 5MT went at about 190,000mi or so, and I had the 6-speed already sitting in my garage, so I figured I might as well just have it installed rather than trying to rebuild the 5MT.

The added weight surely isn't a benefit, but I do like the highway cruise, and the gearing of the 6-speed will match up much better with the EZ30R than the 5MT would have. I had an Outback/Type RA 5th gear in the 5MT for better performance on track, but that meant I was spinning 4000rpm @ 80mph on the highway. With the 6-speed I still have that better gearing for the track in 5th, and for the highway I can drop it into 6th and lope along.

Oh, and I'd be curious what "problems" the 6-speed is supposed to create. Can you educate me, Unoriginal?

I DO question this "new" bell housing of the new Imprezas....unless it's the same on the engine side but what's changed is on the tranny side.

Better gearing for track use. Better gear spacing for more acceleration. Two different trannies, two different purposes.

Yes I rock a JDM DCCD 6spd in my '99 L Wagon. So furious! 80mph@3600rpms in 6th gear. Forget 80mph, that's speeding. 60mph comes in around 2900rpms.

Not for autocross! 2nd is lower in the 6-speed, which will find you at fuel cut sooner if your local tracks get to that speed.
