Default ej257 cams drop into ej255???

im looking into cams for my 06 wrx (ej255) the only ones i find are for ej257or ej205. my builder/tuner says they look very similar to his ej257 but he is not sure if i will retain the avcs which he said is a big deal. are there any 280/280 cams out there for my car that retain avcs??

The block on the EJ255 and 257 are the same. It's the heads that are different.

yes, OP should be more specific (example, 2004 sti cams drop into 2006 wrx heads)

And yes, any sti cams should drop into your 2006 wrx heads.
btw, the 06 wrx cams are the same as the sti

You would think they are all the same, but I called BC and they specifically told me that their cams don't work in the EJ255 head. Strange though. Nuke is right, the part # for 06 WRX is the same as STi.

Im running into the same problem i think im going to go the Tomei route. Several people in 06-07 WRX's are running those and its not far off from the STi cams.

I wouldn't run the cams from a company (whos job it is to know such info) that gets this stuff wrong.

my builder actually just sent my cams (06 wrx) and his cams (04 sti) straight to brian crower, and they are going to make me a custom 280 cam that retains avcs for the regular price too. my builder says the cams look exactly the same but the avcs seems different. they said it should only take about a week to get back too.

So does that mean you're not agreeing with us that '06 WRX cams are the same??? The WHOLE valvetrain is the same part#s, difference is the head casting.

Wanna see if it's different, go ask for AVCS cam gear, same Part#. JDM EJ255 and EJ207 uses the SAME AVCS cam gear, however different cam specs because of 2.5L and 2.0L Ours is the same part#.
