Default paint chipping 08 STI

Anyone deal with any of the dealerships in the Vancouver area about paint chips on their 08 subie? My OBP paint is looking sandblasted all around from the winter Looks terrible especially on the front and rear fender arches. I knew the paint sucked, but not this bad?! i only have 18k on the ODO.

It's been up and down the mountains, 1 trip up to the interior, but other then that, it's the fairly usual commute. Should i be raising a huge fuss about this? My other vehicles have never had this problem?!

I don't think paint in that circumstance would be warranties. It is wear and tear. Do you have stock wheels tires? And do you tail gate (those seem to be the two worst factors).

Hmm, i'll see if the dealership will do anything about it. Just figured to ask to see if anyone else has complained about this particular issue in the lower mainland.

Stock wheels but winter tires (LM-25), and no, i don't tailgate, but big trucks+coquihalla+salt+snowy conditions = probably not the best conditions.

I'd understand if it was some soccer mom shuttle vehicle, but the fact is, i bought a subaru with all wheel drive and i expect it to handle the kind of conditions that i'd throw at it. I'm not trying to ralley or anything

had a trip from vegas during x'mas/new year, bumper is worse ever, plus windshield and headlight glass, not really care about bumper anymore, it will be chipped again after repaint anyway, any shop can do refinish headlight glasses and put on 3M films?

sorry about Hi-jack your post

i'm pretty sure Subaru will actually paint your car for free.

your paint should look like new still, not like my 93, unless mine looks better

yes it should be warranted as per other local forums and member experiences.

also that is typical subaru paint, its not great but should be ok for awhile. if you ever see other obp cars up close they all look sandblasted if they are driven regularly :-(

How bad is it? I've got some chips here and there that I've touched with touch up paint (which I probably should have asked them to pay for it come to think of it if this was a known problem) but nothing major, with 28K on the odo. It's had many trips to whistler, a bunch of running around the interior, and the #1 hwy to deal with everyday.

I've just bought some costly paint chip kit that, from what people say, covers paint chips nicely. I won't know until it comes in though. it's not cheap -_-;;

Go and die under a tree UPS.

+1. I've had to pay too much for their brokerage fees, I am a USPS man from now on.

I bought the Dr. Colochip kit (http://drcolorchip.com/) but I haven't used it yet because of the weather. Hope to use it soon.

It literally looks sandblasted. In fact someone asked why i didn't wash the front of the car; it's that bad. No point in touching up at all, you'll have more touch up paint then actual paint on the bumper before your done!

i'll bring it in!

Not claiming warranty is retarded and for people with way too much money to burn.

Getting mine painted and new 3m tape this week. I only got 5k miles on mine and it looks like it was hit by a shotgun! I guess I got to go with the mud flaps next.

The TSB was for the '08s since the early models didn't come with the larger film on the rear doors. The '09s came from the factory with the larger film already there so I'm guessing you are out of luck.

I also am taking advantage of the warranty/TSB for rear door paint chipping. My film has been sitting at the dealership since October but I didn't want to get it installed until after our typical nightmare winter. The process is decently involved (remove doors, realign doors, repaint, new film) so I might as well have a nice looking car for at least one summer....

Wow, that's quite the process to install the film. Glad to hear that they're doing such an in depth job, and smart of you to wait until this damn winter is over.

Can someone show me where to find this TSB? I am going to take my car in for the same issue next week.

So aside from this TSB

How are you guys liking that '09 STI?

My 05 has proved incredibly reliable in all aspects, thus earning admiration from nay-sayers... and now I am hoping to get some of them onboard.

The price is also waaay better than 3 years ago...
