Default Considering move to Phoenix/Scottsdale

tell me about it.

I'm about done with Commiefornia and would like a place where I can modify my car without the fear of trips to the state ref, a place where I can get a CCW, a place that doesn't regulate every aspect of my life and suck my wallet dry yet consistently have a state budget deficit.

Is this AZ?

Fear not, I am not a granola munching, Liberal POS from CA looking to impose my 'standards of living' on anyone else.

Sometimes this place kinda seems like LA-Light. I guess you can say that it's usually the good parts that influence Phoenix, and not the bad.

I've been here just about two years. I really, really like it. You might too. Never hurts to try something.

I just moved from Mass too! Definitely come check out the SanTan meet. Maybe 20 mins from Tempe.

I love it here compared to almost anywhere (and yes I have been almost everywhere).

... I think you need to come out here and spend a weekend in Scottsdale before even considering it. It... can't be put into words.

That bad, huh. Akin to trying to describe the level of ****tardery present in the SF Bay Area I'd be willing to bet.

I would defiantly come out and check out the cities before committing to anything, I just want to gauge what general area best suits me.

So its a bit like LA?

I was looking at property in Chandler, Mesa and Apache Junction as well. A 4,000 sq/ft home on 1.9 acres is about what my condo is going for here in SF.

Ahh, I've seen at least 3 different interpretations for CCW in the past few days. Besides, its not on the test.

Hey, welcome back to the free parts of the US. Open carry is legal here too. But you will get the occasional transplant, from one of the socialist I want the government to make all my decisions for me part of the country, that take offense to it.

Oh and when you get here, go to Scottsdale Gun Club. Their machine gun rental selection is bigger than most gun stores I have been to in Cali.

Look up the song "I'm a big douche at the scottsdale bars," it pretty much explains it.

Sounds like Huntington Beach.

I'm not into bars/nightlife so I don't put too much into that stuff.

Ideally I'd like a nice, clean, safe city not over run by homeless, liberals and all the other things that have ruined CA.

Scottsdale truly is a nice area, just the nightlife people give it a bad name. Chandler is nice too. I would say come down here and check out the different areas, see what you like.

Scottsdale is all those things, but its more expensive than most of the other suburbs around Phx. Dont overlook the west side or the north side of town. Glendale, Peoria and even north Phoenix are nice areas and far cheaper than Scottsdale.

Or you could check out the far west like Buckeye or Goodyear. Hard to argue with a 2000 sq ft house on acreage for 200k

Maricopa is a little ways from everything, but they're basically giving houses away. but +1 for everything C-grunt mentioned

Check out Gilbert. Nice, new clean, family oriented, housing is well priced. That's where my wife and I settled.

Yeah, but it's also easy to argue that there isn't much to do out here. I bought out here because I'm uber-close to work, but I kind of regret it. I think I'd rather deal with a commute and be closer to civilization, or at least an area where everything isn't "Coming Soon."

You should prob keep looking beyond AZ as well if you are looking for all of that. I'm an AZ native and did the opposite move. Ca tends to be a bit more regulated then AZ, but the area you are in makes a big difference within each state. Where I am in La jolla, is much different then the bay area. There is such an obscene amount of wealth, conservatives rule and the far left is almost non existent... That changes the way the local government works at least in the immediate area. CA is tougher with the cars.. but, AZ will catch up and
beyond that.. there are speed cameras almost everywhere all over the freeways and side streets.. for me that takes any joy out of driving. I'd rather keep an already quick car stock and be able to drive 80 or so on the freeway all the time without worrying about cameras. AZ likes to take on all of california's little rules and laws you are probably trying to avoid as well. And lately has created a few of their own making californians say WTF? The economy is bad in CA, but I guarantee it will be equal to worse in AZ since big business is non existent. AZ is projecting a 3 billion dollar deficit which is fairly steep for them.

It is much cheaper there though, much cheaper! and is generally warm and sunny, just be sure you like hot weather, visit in the summer and be ready for triple digits 4+ months out of the year and the desert lifestyle that and the aired landscape creates.

In any bigger city, you prob won't get away from all the things you dislike about CA.. Have you checked out other cities north on the coast or in the SW? Oregon is awesome and Austin, TX is a neat city and also affordable.

all said, the valley can be a good place to call home.
