Default 97 legacy gt swap questions

ok heres the scoop. My red 05 was involved with a hit and run last october by a semi. i was going to fix the car myself (long story really dont want to get into it) but then i decided to sell it as is and use the money to fix a toyota mini truck im currently restoring and use the left over money towards school.

while browsing today i found a local 97 legacy gt awd 2.5 auto for 500. The trans is shot and the engine is knocking. Im thinking of swaping the ej255t and 5speed manual from my lgt into this 97 ive found.

im pretty good at mechanical work, the wiring id send off to a pro (im up for recomendations). so im looking at swaping the engine and trans myself. Is there anything that needs to be fabbed ,swapped or will they just drop in?

Im going from a automatic to a manual, whats involved in changing over the bits. ive done similar work in the past but it involved toyota and rwd. Also would i be able to use the front brakes from the 05 legacy gt on the 97?

im very serious about this and would like helpful imput.

thank you

The motor will fit provided you get the turbo cross member, or notch the 97's for the uppipe, and of course the ECU.
The 5 spd conversion isnt bad. The 97 will have all the holes and such to do that conversion. You will have to get the pedal box and slave cylinder resevoir to mount on the 97 plus the lines. Cross member should be the same. You will need the axles. The hubs should be the same and work. You will need the rear diff from the 05 as well, and the driveshaft. The rear axles should be the same since it is a R160 rear end. You will also want the interior bits like the console and shifter boot from another 97.
For the harness ECS (east coast swappers) will merge the harness for around $700-1000 (Last I checked). You send them the harnesses and they will will do it so that when you get it back it is plug and play.

I am sure there are a few things I am forgetting, but this is the jist of it.

Joe,

Since you have the complete LGT you can swap all the mechanical aspects over. You'll probably want to do the fuel tank as well since the 97 does not have all the emissions stuff that the 05 has and you'll need to upgrade the fuel pump on the 97 as well. You can pretty much unbolt the crossmember with the motor and trans on it, drop it out and do the same on the new car. It is a straight forward swap mechanically. Wiring is the killer, you might want to send that out.

uh.. a few things that are ugly in this swap

the imobilizer and can bus will be a killer .. as far as i know it has never been done

you will also have to figure out the rear abs sensors.. the lgt has differnt hubs
lgt uses the abs system as a speed sensor

I'd send that wiring to Zephyr.

Why not just swap the entire dash and wiring?
