Default Vancouver Autoshow Preview

Just got back from the media day at this year's autoshow. You can describe this year's autoshow in one word - Cozy. Smaller more intimate setting. Companies like Jaguar and Land Rover were a no show. It's not boring because despite the current automotive climate, there are still some interesting cars to see. As usual small, green, economical cars now dominate the showcases like the prototype Mitsu iMiEV. It's got potential. Toyota Prius is on its 2nd configuration now. Looks the same to me. But of all the "go save a tree" cars, the coolest is the Lotus inspired Dodge Circuit EV. Wow is it ever stunning.
But Mr. Premier had some issues with ingress and egress.
Coupla cool cars were these matte black Lambo, GTR and a mad MB.

Show starts on Tuesday and will last till Sunday. Check website for details.

Here are some pix. Will add more later.

Mr. Campbell weighing in to show support for the autoshow. I think he said he liked the Venza (behind)

Trying to exit the low-slung Dodge Circuit EV. It's not easy. I had a hard time too. Maybe that McD's Happy Breakfast wasn't such a good idea.

Yet another Golf to entice zealous happy snappers.

More on this later....

Vancouver autoshow sucks the balls. I have been disappointed every time I have been. I don't know if it is because I have been spoiled because I've been to Sema and te Tokyo motorshow and auto salon or if it just sucks a$$.

I went once, it was the fail. Sorta like paying to go to a car dealership where you have no hope of getting a test drive. There were only a couple interesting vehicles and they were so roped off I might as well have just hit up google image search for a closer look.

If I was in the market for a particular type of car and was also too inept to conduct my own research on the internet, or if I was desperately in search of a shop that could order in chrome wheels from a catalog, then I probably would have enjoyed it more.

I understand what you are saying tora. The events you mentioned are specialised in what they display. Vancouver Autoshow is probably one of the final legs of the autoshow circuit. As such, it tends to lose alot of hot cars. What the autoshow does is appeal to the mainstream public.

Aspect, yes most "nice" cars will be off limits. I am glad I don't have to contend with that... and the crowd. Even the knobs are gone thanks to vandals.

I always thought the companies were one step ahead and took them off beforehand. I guess I was wrong.

Tokyo motorshow is not really specialized, it is just a big ass car show.
I guess for me I'd just as soon go to the automall and not have tonnes of gawkers around the car I want to sit in or T-drive.

My opinion is that because of the crowd, the dealers aren't willing to let people check out the nicer cars except for the exterior. I don't know why I kept getting suckered into paying for admission but if all the nice cars are locked, I have a better chance of checking it out in person at a dealership for free. To me, most of the dealers that showed up are not interested in having you "trash" their cars by going in and checking it out - I don't know, is there a point if the majority of the booths are just dealers for manufacturers (very few specialty) and most of them choose to lock up the nice cars?

New Z4 folding hard top. It is much bigger than before.

Interior has been improved. Lots of soft-touch padded areas. Wait a minute! What's with the Fahrenheit digits!!!

Determined not to be outdone by Munich, here's Audi's A5 Cab's.... interior. Sorry missed the exterior shot. Just imagine an A5 without roof.

FunkMasta and I went today. It wasn't bad. We got to sit in a lot of cars, pop a lot of hoods

Yes Loomin there is a Reventon.

FunkMasta and I noticed one thing common with all of these cars (and a few others):

-Hyundai Genesis Coupe
-Honda S2000
-Nissan 370Z
-Mazda RX-8

Their clutch pedals are too soft! They feel terrible IMO. The STi and WRX we sat in felt much nicer.

Oh, and the Camaro and Challenger are big and ugly in person

I just got back from it, the Rev was cool

Like said Genesis, 335d (425lbft ), 3 Astons, Ferrari. but otherwise VERY disappointing.
Ive been going for the past 6-7 years in a row and this was one of the worst, hopefully next year will be better with more new stuff.

I actually really liked the Genesis, so did FunkMasta. He liked the 3.8L V6 version more until I told him the turbo 4 was closely related to the Lancer Evo/Ralliart 4B11 engine

2.0L turbo, 6 speed, RWD, 19" wheels, Brembo brakes = $31,000 CAD MSRP

and ya the 370z while I didn't sit in it, has HUGE fender flares, very nice touch.

but the show overall was bland sedan land, literally all the cars looked SO similar with there brand touches but still, it's like they all got one body and where told, now make it your own but don't change the lines.

some of the old super cars and race cars where cool, I def liked that 66 cobra and for fun the 78 T/A with the 572 BBC in it, damn that thing was a monster.

I think I need to start going to custom car shows more.
