depends on your emissions laws, i know in cali the swap wouldnt be legal because the motor in the car has to be the same that came in the vehicle, or at least an option engine. the EJ20K (the V4 motor so you know) did not come in any us car, the only engine that could be legally swapped would be the EJ out of the 02+ impreza's.

ask the same question in your regional forums
my ej20k with a 02wrx turboback puts out 2ppm co2 in the sniffer tests ... so sniffer tests aren't the problem |

ya, a properly running car (even with a swap and mods) usually has no problem with the snifffer, it all comes down to visual and if they'll ignore what they see...

If you are OBD1 you should be okay. Not sure if 95 is the switch year or not. If you are OBD2 you cant do it legal.

96 is obdII on impreza. most states want a newer engine in an older car or same MY. in ohio i did a 95 shell for emissions. 96 they have to plug in to your OBDII and check readiness codes and CEL's. 95 they could only sniff the tail pipe at idle. rollers are for FWD or RWD only in ohio. some states may have AWD rollers and will load test it. but high idle and curb idle is typically all they'll check(aside from gas cap).
