OMGHi2U yes another 2.5 swap.....and all the questions to go with it

need some help got a buddy with a 98 2.5rs is going to swap a v4 sti ej20t. he doesn't have the money for the full drivetrain swap and would rather have the sti tranny, trying to get best of both worlds i know...

is there a way to get the stock rs dif to the right gear ratio maybe by swaping in a sti v4 vlsd into the stock rs housing.....posibilitys???

there is the tranny to rs hub which is the other prob....maybe something custom idk

also can't find a aftermarket TMIC for a v4 ej20t, what swaps over?

emitions....yeah thats for later haha

thanks

the jdm trans has a 4.44 final drive, if you swap the v4 sti trans in, you will have to change the rs rear diff to a 4.44 ring and pinion to match the trans. the rs might already have a lsd in the rear diff, im not sure when subaru started putting them in...

i am getting a 4.44 r160 rear diff w/ap suretrac lsd and axles from japan for my v4 sti trans setup, but it wasnt cheap!

from my understading when you swap in the sti tranny and diff all other parts of the drivetrain has to be switched over. hubs, axles, and a driveshaft from a v4 is not cheep even seen that often....

as you brought another question to my mind, do you top out in 5th going like 85(mph)? or is it drivable, ikd why my friend wants the sti tranny in it he's trying to do some rally. i think it would be way easyer just to swap over the motor and upgrade later....

I have the 4.44 final drive in mine and I can tell you it does north of 130 without breaking a sweat. you will be close to 85 in 3rd gear depending on your rev cut off.

according to the calculator online with my tires/gear ratios and final drive and rev limit.. I can go 167 with 7200 rpm rev limit.

i figured with stock size tires and 8000 redline it is close to 160 with the 4.44. I dropped my redline to 7500 for safety. Not sure how far one can push these engines.

i'm doing a V8 swap into my 01 RS, however due to me not having a job, and the face that I still have student loans, i'm going to just swap out the engine.

I'll get a drivetrain later, I just can't justify another 4K. Just upgrade your clutch to an aftermarket unit, to handle the inceased torque.
