Default Won't Start?! 2.2l swap

Alright to catch everyone up to speed-
I dropped a 2.2l motor into where my 2.5l DOHC was. I did this because the 2.5l had a rod knock. I am using the 2.5l computer and harness, everything is plugged in. When I attempt to start it, it will just turn over, and over, and over. But will not start. I am stumped.

I know the coil pack is good, it worked on my old motor. The spark plug wires are assumed good, and the plugs are good also. I have looked through the repair manual at the troubleshooting page. The only thing I think it could possibly be is a clogged injector or bad injector. Or possibly should I just get a 2.2l computer and stick it in?

What would cause it to not start?

Doublecheck that your fuel lines are not reversed and also that you hear the pump prime when you first turn the key on. The lines will not build pressure if reversed.

What year ECU are you using? Also, what coil?

Forgot to add.....check the timing pulley on the crank and compare it to your old one. The number of reluctors must be the same or it won't do squat.....

I have tried with the fuel lines both ways, the pump does prime, and there is pressure. I will check the timing pulley in a bit. Thanks!

the ECU is a 97 for the DOHC 2.5l
The 2.2l has dual exhaust ports. I am not quite sure on the exact year.

Are you using EJ22 heads? I'll assume you swapped in a complete EJ22 motor.

I haven't taken an in depth look at the differences between the DOHC EJ25 sensors, and the EJ22 sensors side by side. But as long as all your stock sensors have a nice place to be by the end of the swap, it should all work out.

There arent any unplugged sensors or anything are there?

Your EJ22 heads are from 1990-early 1995.

Alright so I looked at the timing pulley and they did look different. The offset of the sensor pick ups were a little off the side. So I switched out the pulleys and redid the timing and now when it turns over it sounds better doing that, but it still wont start.

I am using all the original sensors, they are all plugged in. And yes I am using the 2.2 heads. I didn't want to go through all the extra work for the 2.5 heads yet.

The cam pulleys? The pulleys on the head? If so those are the ones I changed, and they are not identical. So I threw the old pulleys on from the 2.5l
This is what my car sounds like when starting-

I'd bet the cam and crank pulley both send quite different data...
Seems like you may need to swap in a ej22 ECU. be sure to change those pulleys back to the 2.2s. Then if it doesn't start right up, start doing a comparative check of what-sensor-goes-where on the ECU...and make sure the coil and injectors are getting the right sigs too. (this is the un-fun nerdy part)

IIRC, you need to use the EJ22 crank and cam sensors along with the EJ22 cam pulleys.

You might get more help over in the conversions forum.

Ok So I went to pick and pull and got a 2.2l Computer and timing pulleys. I spent the morning swapping everything out, and went to try it out. Bah! Still nothing! I checked the spark, and there is definitely spark. I am so mind boggled about it.

Alright so I did a lot of further troubleshooting with a fellow Suby buddy. It is definitely an electrical issue. I traced all the wires on the engine wiring harness. They all check out fine, and they are plugged into the correct places.
Basically what is happening is when the 3 Main plugs, positioned near the tranny on my car (By the battery on older legacy's), when they are all plugged in the power drops out and I don't get fuel pressure. However with the bottom plug undone I get loads of fuel pressure, but no spark. According to the wiring schematics that I have the bottom plug powers almost everything, however it goes through relays before it gets to the manifold wiring harness. I don't know if it is a bad relay or what. But it is definitely an electrical issue.

Any suggestions?
