Smile 09 STI Stage 2 results

Made a visit to CBRD this weekend to get my 09 STI protuned. Turned out teh Cobb Stage 2 map was surprisingly decent, so Chad just smootehd out teh AFRs and did a little work on teh boost. Overall I'm pretty thrilled.
Mods:
Invidia Catted Downpipe
MXP Catback

pix work fine for me. looks good.. i've heard raving reviews about cbrd for evos, but mixed reviews from the subaru community. i was trying to decide between going there and agile and ended up going with agile. cbrd only charges ~$375 for a protune, correct? can't really beat that!

Yeah he quoted me $385 for the tune which is cheaper than any other place I've seen. I'm definitely pleased with it, though a tune like mine is pretty simple anyways, I mostly just wanted the piece of mind of knowing that the tune was solid and safe (unlike the factory tune). He also did an STU legal map for me for autox. I'll definitely go back though for any future tuning.

The gains weren't huge 273/326 vs 271/318. The AFR and boost onset was just improved upon. I wasn't after huge gains though, mostly just making sure I wasn't going to joining the bum piston club.

That is pretty amazing that the Cobb map was doing that well vs a pro-tune. I am not doubting your tuner.. but...

i am! cobbs ots maps are hella rich. At $385 for a cbrd protune.. thats $193 per whp! i wouldn't be happy with that at all.

i agree, youd think that there would be more significant of a gain in power?

that is the strongest OTS map ive ever seen!

+1 for feeling like you should be getting more for your money. If I'm putting out 220AWHP from a 2.0 with 120K miles on an extremely conservative dyno at stage 2, I would think you should be rocking it with a 5 year newer car with an extra .5 liter displacement. If you're at 16.5-17psi max like me I feel like there is way more power around there somewhere. Seek and ye shall find!

Well I dunno, I'm not a tuner, but I was definitely surprised to see those numbers on a Mustang Dyno regardless. To be fair, I also wasn't charged the quoted price because the tune didn't require much.

Also considering the numbers I've seen from other protunes, they don't seem too far off honestly. Check out IWSTI's Power Bragging forum and look for other Stage 2 cars, aside from the Mustang dyno numbers, I didn't see anything that seemed suspect honestly.

Exactly. I unfortunately don't have a baseline dyno to compare, but they showed me a dyno of their stock 08. IIRC it put down ~ 215/230 bone stock.

^^ different dynos put down different numbers, but this is the same dyno/same car putting down only 2whp difference. no one is arguing the final #s, but rather the gains (or lack of).
