I'm lookin to quiet my exhaust down by adding a muffler or resonator. Anyone else do this and if so what kind of muffler did you put on?

Magnaflow makes a 4" and a 5" round body muffler that works great. I installed one on mine to tone down the "honda" sound that my EL header makes. makes a nice difference in the sound. if you are running a 2.5" exhaust you can use the 4" body pt # 10416 for the 14". If you are needing a 3" muffler pt #12867.

You added 2 mufflers? Do you have those 2 plus your tailpipe muffler? I have a APS muffler right now, I think I'll try 1 and see how it quiets it down.

thanks for the part #'s too

No one can answer you needs tungsten. Buy something to quiet it and you are done. The only guesstimate anyone can give you is to use a free flow muffler or resonator and that's just a guess.

I like some sound but not making every one double take (including the popo) when I drive by.. I don't like attention lol

+1 for SPT, though I have to say that I'm catless and it's still quite loud.

Get a rather large resonator installed. With the extra resonator, the baffles will be able to quiet the sound alot.

Hahah. SPT loud,.......? The SPT is so quiet. The SPT in my honest opinon sounds horrible. It is fluttery and raspy. Sounds rather crappy. And please dont tell me otherwise. I have been though 11 Subaru exhausts now. I have had the loudest exhuasts and the quietest ones. I can honestly say that the SPT was the worst out of the 11.

ya, not interested in spt. A in line resonator seems to be the best option. I just want to keep under the popo radar. I guess I could get a chevy or harley badge on the car and I wouldnt have to worry.

You are right about it having a sort of raspy sound, the HKS is better sounding- though the volume is no different.

unfortunately i understand your "guess" statement. had TXS, Cobb, now mad dad whisper, all drone all give me a headache all got me exhaust tickets. can't go stock I need the power and upgrading to FMIC to go with the 20G i have on the car. I guess I will try a magnaflow resonator in the midpipe from what i read it doesn't effect flow all that much if any.

Vibrant performance makes quiet resonators of different lengths, you should check them out.
I just don't know the quality of their stuff, because I never heard of anyone here that has their stuff.

A glasspack style resonator packed with steel (then it'd be a steel pack! lol) muffles a lot too and lasts a good length.

Anyone know any good resonators that WON'T quiet the exhaust down by much?

I was thinking of vibrant performance bottle style or something.

My exhaust is a little raspy and I just want to tone it down.

Probably my burnt out coffee can, so I was going to upgrade to an apexi n1.

Resonators help with droning. Mufflers are what help with volume. If you are catless, everything is going to be loud except for something like stock sti axleback.

Or you can use these:

http://www.afabcorp.com/AFCO_Dynatec...rtex_conesonly

http://www.carchemistry.com/shop/ind...ct_detail&p=18

You can just slip them in at the downpipe/catback union and remove them if you no likey
