Default Installing UEL WRX header on 06/07 2.5i impreza

well i got sick of the UL SS Auto Chrome WRX Header i had installed on my 07 2.5i. so i was given a one piece (header/up pipe) WRX UEL Header and decided to install it to see if ther was any difference

i took a bunch of pictures and will do a short little write up tomorrow on what had to be done, just like my last wrx header install... so watch this space

edit: finished the install! WOW! the sound is AWESOME! i have finally acheived that boxer rumble/growl. i'll have pictures and a small write up shortly...

edit 2: you can see in the pictures where i had to notch the lip on the frame to install the header, you can also see where i welded the 2nd o2 sensor bung at. other wise this is a fairly simple install if you have a welder and a few hours on your hands. on withe the pics!

Old EL Header

New UEL Header

Crappy Joints

Smooth Joints!

Frame notches

You can barely see where the 2 o2 sensors are located on the header

You can see the drop down pipe here to make it all work.

Front o2 sensor location

The exhaust has had the resinator removed. (i wanted it slightly louder more wrx sounding)

Now with the Addition of a 3" header back exhaust using a 3" Ebay Style Catback exhaust.

with the picture above, you can see where the 2.5" to 3" transition pipe is.

no, they are actually EL headers not UEL headers... the ones i just installed are true UEL headers!

the SS EL headers made my car sound kinda hondish, lol.... but installing the UEL headers, it sounds more WRX like..

hmm, i really wonder what kind of numbers we'd get on the dyno, if we ran our wrx headers instead of the stock 2.5i EL heads.

Makes me ponder

don't ponder to much.... my subie will be heading back to the dyno in a few weeks (and it will get a tune at the same time)

these are fairly cheap too !! Sucks N/A headers cost three times as much as WRX ones I saw on on ebay for $59 !!! If only some shop would make a N/A UEL header it would bring them soooo much business cause all we want is the rumble and UEL is the only way ad all they need to do it make the damn thing so we dont have to chap up turbo models ones cant wait to see pics and a write up

i have an exhaust leak some where.. i got to wait untill monday to put it up on a lift to figure out where it's coming from. i'm thinking it's coming from the drop down pipe, but i'll see. other then that small problem, i LOVE the new sound, i can't get enough of it!

it seems a little more peppier (word?) specialy when the avcs system kicks in.. but my butt dyno doesn't count untill i acutally put it on a real dyno! which i'm hoping maybe this week or next.. i might even cough up the money and get it tuned, but i gotta fix my low voltage front o2 sensor CEL problem before i can even think about a tune

Nice work Bud.

My only suggestion - could you make that 'down pipe' lower profile, in effect tucking the rest of the exhaust up closer to the chassis - it looks like a speed hump will catch the flange and rip all your good work off.

it scrapes a little (on really high "bumps")... this will be fixed monday once i get it up on a lift so i can take a better look and fix anything that needs to be..

edit: i've been thinking about having my exhaust (header back) redone in 3", right now it's at 2.5"

No way.
I wouldn't have gone with anything bigger than 2.25".

what are the primary pipe I.D.'s? they look huge. And what is the collector outlet I.D.? i think going to a 3" I.D. from the header back may push your peak tq way high in the rev range, and possibly lower it a touch. the EJ253 isnt very efficient above 5k rpm.

the header collector is 2.5", which is actually perfect for the rest of my exhaust system. the primary pipe ID's i have no idea, and i'm NOT about to take down that header again!

Subscribed. I'd be interested to see if there's any difference on the dyno.
