Default 06 sti gauge cluster into an 05 sti - yes/no?

Gents,
I am seeking the knowledge of the pack. I need to know if I can plug-n-play an 06 sti gauge cluster into an 05 sti harness? I am building a non-subi chassis'd franken-car so fit isn't an issue it's really a question of any differences between the 2 years, including plug changes (i have all the info's on the 05sti with full harness ect... but know little about the 06'sti)

thank you for any insights you might have. Oh, and please no speculation, I am trying to get accurate information.

Thank you.

its a gray area you probably won't get a definitive answer

the 05+ have an immobilizer that supposedly is linked to the cluster (so you don't switch clusters and get your 200,000mi car covered under warranty)

I understand the immobilizer system and have a full matching ECU / Immo box / key / ignition ect... however I don't have the gauge cluster that matches the set I am still searching for the right cluster. I have found an 06 but don't wanna spend if it doesn't work with 05' sti gear. In my communication with the stealership they communicated that the gauge cluster doesn't link into the security system... I am seeking confirmation of this. ( I realize that some may be hesitant to confirm this out loud, if that is the case feel free to PM me I assure you I will not reveal anything I am not supposed to, I am just trying to build my own car, you know...)
Here is a concept painting of the car just to understand more about what I am doing.

there was some one here who did a swap (06wrx into gc8).. the stealer ship said immobilizer would not reprogram/reset? until he had the matching cluster ... it may have been the stealership being cranky. Do you have an original key?

the other option would be to go with the 06 cluster and find a 04 sti ecu (and move some wires) or go standalone

so I got my motor first (new 05 sti engine) but wasn't able to get the matching security junk out the car (however it came with full vehicle harness and bits) so I originally was going to go AEM ECU however I wanted a simple stock solution to start with. To that end I started looking for a matched 05 sti security/ecu system. I found and have a matched sti key/ignition module/immob.box/ecu... and am now looking for a gauge cluster. I am watching a thrashed 06 sti gauge cluster and was just curious if that would plug into my 05 harness without having to be modified. I have been told that you can send a cluster to subaru for a reset (as I am building a custom car and want the gauge cluster to read 0miles when I finish the build they said no problem...) In talking to them about this I talked to three different stealership tech managers and each said the same thing, No the cluster has nothing to do with the security system...
so that isn't the question.

The question is did they change anything between the 05 and 06 gauge cluster (plugs, wiring layout, functionality ect...)?

if not I can get the 06' cluster. If yes, then I will just continue to hunt for an 05' cluster (anyone got one? I got $225 in hand [paypal] I will cover shipping to 32810)

I swapped an 05 STi cluster into my 06 WRX and it started up fine... I'm pretty sure the immo box is the only thing you're concerned with which is right by the steering column, but I may be wrong on that.

Yeah, if you check the wiring diagram, there doesn't seem to be any connection between the immobilizer and the cluster. I have to go down and get my spare key programmed for my immobilizer. Subaru dealer said 30 minutes worth of time to do it.
