Default Are there any programs that enable you to download hotmail?

I have to start using hotmail at work so I need to be able to download my mail to my PC. I don't want to do the cut and paste to a file routine cause that will just get anoying. Anyone know of a program where this is possible? Only thing I have found seem to be POP3 email programs like eudora. But these won't do the webbased email servers. Any help?

Hotmail is owned by Microsoft, Outlook is an MS product, do the math. Hate or not, it's all that supportsit that I know of.

You could use www.myrealbox.com insteady of shatty Hotmail. It supports POP, IMAP and SMTP.

And just to be clear, Outlook and Outlook Express are two different apps. OE couldn't be simpler to get working with Hotmail.

yeah it happens to me all the time. At first I thought it was a duplicate so I deleted the second one, then both of them disappeared.

Reviving this thread because I want to know if anyone else here got a message from Microsoft telling them they would no longer be able to download their Htmail to Outlook Express beginning 7/16/02?

It's over a week later and it still works fine. Maybe they got bitched out for it...

It's the first I've heard of it. When did you get that message? I can't see any reason why they wouldn't let you do that.

You probably misinterpretted the message stating that you would no longer be able to download external pop mail into your hotmail account if you did not pay for your hotmail account.

Or maybe you exceeded the quota and it was saying you wouldn't receive messages received after that date unless you emptied out some space. I know that they warned me that I was almost at the space limit adn said that any mail received after it was full would be returned to sender.

Go to Tools -> accounts -> Mail then click on Add (Mail). It;ll ask for the name to be displayed and then the e-mail address. When you put xxxx@hotmail.com it'll figure out that you wanna use hotmail and set up stuff, all you have to do is click Next, and then type your password and you're good to go.

Oops: I think I misunderstood your message. The incoming mail will be in the Inbox under Hotmail on the left folder list, not in the Local Folders inbox.

You may be right; maybe I misread it. I'll have to check when I get home (I archived all my old hotmail messages thinking I'd lose them), but I'd swear it said they were turning this feature off unless I upgraded to hotmail premium (or wth they call it).

I got the message about a month before the cut-off date, followed by several reminders. Reason behind it was to make $$$ -- if you paid for hotmail, they'd let you continue doing it. If you didn't, it was web only.

And Star*Child, I've thought about what you said some more. I've never used web based hotmail to pull down my pop email, so that couldn't have been it.

actually, I changed ISPs so my pop accounts are there anymore. hehehe...good timing, eh?

Star*Child was right. Maybe I should read my emails more closely?

ATTENTION POP USERS: IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
Dear MSNŽ HotmailŽ User: We would like to remind you that as of July 16, 2002, we will no longer be able to offer POP Mail Retrieval to our Hotmail users with a standard free account. This means that you will not be able to aggregate e-mail from various accounts into a single Hotmail account. We do regret any inconvenience this change has caused you. This will be your final reminder.
