Innovative Tuning (over-)built my setup and I expect it'll outlast the stock engine (80K+ miles).

14K miles so far...

I have 12k with je pistons and acl race bearings, the rest stock on ej205 (daily driven). This is the first subaru engine my friend ever built. Still runs strong but would rather stay away from compression/leakdown tests to avoid any possible dismay or anxiety. My next route, I will be going with a new factory shortblock. Financially I cannot deal with the thought of hoping for 40-50k at best before needing another rebuild. It seems a built motor is for the guys wanting a lot of power along with the ability to beat the hell out of the motor without desiring/needing longevity.

roughly 12000 total. 9000 at 300whp, 3000 at 400whp. now obviously i wasnt WOT for all those miles but probably about 30% of them i was. 7800 redline and i hit it a lot. built the block my self with eagle rods, wiseco pistons, acl bearings, and i have an 11mm pump installed. block is healthy and makes great power piston slap is really annoying until it gets hot. i really do beat the crap out of it and it has lasted, so has my 30r . yesssss

15k on my STI - 99.75mm CP pistons/Eagle rods, 400+ & burns oil from crappy break-in but I'm used to it. Still fun as hell to drive!

~3,500 on my WRX - drop in Mahle pistons/STI rods, 300+ & barely burns a drop!

40,000 miles and still running strong. Uses a little oil -- about 1 qt. every 2k miles under normal driving. A bit more when pushing it hard or on long highway trips.

6300 miles...and dead. Spun a rod for sure, won't the rest until I get the motor apart next weekend.

Build:
Custom Arais pistons 8.2:1
Eagle rods
Factory bore and stroke
Factory crank
Oil passages machined
Tolerance evened between mains
Factory heads
BC 280 cams
BC springs/retainers
Factory valves
Cosworth manifold/TGV's
Perrin GT3563 rotated kit
DW 300+FP
DW 1300 injectors
Aeromotive rails
Aeromotive FPR
SD tune (no MAF)

Car was making 421awhp on pump gas and 502awhp on C16

Not sure what caused the motor to go. I wasn't in boost when it let go but was on the freeway and couldn't get over fast enough to shut her down. Oil pressure and temp were solid...real curious to get the motor apart.

I just hit 50k miles on my Rallispec shortblock in my 2008 STi, the car is just stage 2 but the engine has been awesome, doesn't burn oil, no noises other than normal built motor noise. Leak down test shows less than 3% in all 4.

Happy Rallispec customer.

Like most things, it really depends how you treat it. Of course, if you go through the effort you're probably going to drive it hard. Around 50k is a good estimate

I was having Tial BOV spring issues during the first 50-100 miles and the A/F ratio wasn't right (too light of spring and it was drawing air on vacuum w/pull through MAF), also didn't want to boost it while I was figuring this out, so it was rich and no load during the most critical break in miles.

At least I was able to apply that lesson learned to my WRX which broke in nicely with about 10psi for a few hundred miles before we finished tuning and then I just let her rip.

I know what method I'll use when we re-ring my STI...

Maybe, I was getting pressure to get it out of his garage, busy guy ya know. Hind sight is 20/20 on this one though, did't realize the implication it was going to have, and who knows, always more than one factor when it comes to oil consumption. All indications at the time were that it wasn't going to be a big deal. Define "big deal" I guess...runs great, very fast, just have to add some oil every other day. Next time will be even better.
