Default What to lines to tap for gagues

Hey, Well I a wanting to install my gagues, I got the "tapping" of the machnical stuff done now i need to tap the electrical. What I mean is what should I tap to power these devices? right now all I got to give power to is my tranny temp and boost (yes soon AFI) but right now it is vacume. Soon also EGT but I need to tap and weld that probe in....

Neways

What should I use...cig lighter? I noticed on my fuze box I have a rear wiper fuze..even though I am a sedan...I guess that would be safe to tap...ehh? what do you guys think? Any suggestions? Also for grounding..I would assume the metal behind the apillar is good...no?

Any "switched" power wire will do just fine. (wire has power with ignition switch in the on position). Typically a wire near your gauge mounting location is easier to use, as you don't have to run wires all over the place. The power for your gauge lights can be a bit more difficult if you want them to dim like your dash lights. You'll have to find a wire that connects to one of your dash lights, maybe heater control lights etc. Or you can wire your gauge lights to your power wire, and have them lit all the time, it's alot simpler. A good wiring diagram is extremely useful when hooking up accessories.

Good Luck, and tape or heat shrink all your connections. Quick taps work very well for your application. Don't mix up your power and sender unit connections either !!!

I actually have the sender unit is blue and I am going to home depot and buying black and red wires respectivly for ground and power. I have the gagues mounted in the a-pillar so I was thinking of tapping the clock because that dims with the dimmer switch. All it means is a little more wire and a few more zip ties... I real need to buy a soddering iron. For these occasions it would be great..Wire crimpers and electrical tape will do until I can barrow one I guess.

I used the cig lighter for the remote turn-on of my amp, since the factory radio doesn't really have a remote lead. Or maybe it does, and I just couldn't find it w/o taking the whole dash apart. Anyways, it works great, and is only on when the ignition is on. Oh, I have a MY00 2.5RS, if that makes any difference.

Default wire tap

You should just use the cigarette lighter since it is switched off the cars igniton. I have my gauges run off of it and it works fine.

I ended up using the clock since I will be doing a sneaky mod with that area (lets say it envolves a box, a mirror a few leds and a on off with hydrolics.) But thanks for the help guys. Now I am just working out a little problem I am having with the Tranny temp gague not showing tempurature... I need a schmatic to how the wire is supposed to go on the gague (autometer gague)
Thanks for all the info.

This is the schematic from the autometer website showing the installation procedures. Towards the bottom of the page.
