My previous post was locked, so here is the update. I own the 2009 Wrx, and my roommate owns the 2008 Evo GSR.

Evo---1800 miles The evo is averaging 17 mpg per the cars computer. The brakes have started squeaking, reminds me of my old Neons :P When the tranny is cold the lower gears grind. It's a bit warmer now and the shifting still feels a little funny. The owner says that if the car is shifted into neutral then the correct gear its not so bad. The clutch pedal also has a lot of travel before the car will start to move. The owner states that all of these issues are normal.

Wrx--1400 miles The wrx is averaging 23 mpg per the cars computer. I calculated the mpg and I got 1-2 mpg below the cars calculation. Having the 16.9 gallon tank is nice. The car gets over 300 miles before the need to refuel. The low fuel light comes on when the wrx has 3 gallons left. I believe the Evos tank capacity is 14.x gallons. Everything is going well with the wrx except the accumulation of paint chips on the hood. Total count is four. The wrx has the spt short throw shifter, which I enjoy greatly. The evo owner complains about it being too short, he also complains about the wrxs suspension. "It feels like a boat." It is an odd combination of sport and comfort. I have no complaints.

So far I am quite happy with my purchase. I do wish there was another way to pull engine codes besides with an ODB scanner. The exterior of the evo is growing on me. I'm still not ready to say I like the exterior of the wrx yet. It's not ugly just.....different?

The two cars have names now. The evo is Darwin and the wrx is Curry.

I think that he and his room mate kinda bicker back and forth over whose car is better. They are both nice cars and it will be easy to find reasons as to why a person would own one car over another.

As for a comparison for the two cars it seems a bit of an unfair comparison from the start. I always thought the EVO was obviously a more performance oriented car. I would expect the EVO to look better, have worse gas mileage, and perform better in many ways than the newer WRX. Apples and oranges!!

I am pretty sure with the 09 WRX you can read engine codes with the Accessport. Definitely a worthwhile purchase/upgrade.

2 different drivers.

Your roommate may and probably does drive that evo a lot harder, so its not suprising that the tranny is hurting and he gets less mpg. If I drove your car I promise you I would never see over 240miles per tank, regardless of trying to drive it nicely.

The brakes squeeking has nothing, whatsoever to do with quality. Again, driving conditions and driving style are the big factor there, as well as the fact that he has Brembos which have pads from the factory of a different and a little more agressive compound, which in itself makes them more prone to noise. The tranny grinding unless you go N first, definitely isnt normal. But again, if he beats on it, and he likely does, then its something to be expected with any car. Clutch travel, differs on different clutches. Different car, different tranny and different clutch. Change the clutch in your car and your travel will likely change. Mine engages fairly high too, on a WRX tranny. (ACT clutch)

Basically what I am saying, and dont take this as me flaming you, Just trying to give you a bit of perspective, is that none of what you are using to compare the 2 cars, can be used to compare them. You would have to have the same driver using both cars, the same way.

Good point.

Here is the bottom line, if you are happy with your car, that is the only thing thing that matters

Hmmm...

Stock from the factory, the wrx felt more powerful. The evo had serious bog down during take offs.

That is not the case anymore.... :P
