Default Dropping Engine and Trans?????

Hey guys after getting my sti parts car, i need to drop the engine and trans so i can sell the STI swap to help fund my V8 swap.

I was thinking i could drop the whole subframe in the front and have the motor come out with it. Am i right or does the subframe come out then unbolt mounts then drop out? I have a WRX/STI manual and i cant find any instructions for that.

Any help?

That's how I stripped my donor. Pulled the front suspension off and then the driveshaft. Stuck a floor jack under the transmission, engine hoist to the engine, unbolted the cross member and all the other parts needed to remove the motor and dropped it out the bottom. It's how these cars are assembled at the factory, engine and tranny come up from the bottom.

As always Kwan you know your stuff. Ok when dropping it there is a subframe, and the crossmember? how is the crossmember set up, bolts to the frame? After you remove that do you have to remove anything off the trans or once the subframe is gone it drops?

Honestly this blows, i am straight up a Honda man before this and i have no clue how to do any swaps mechanical wise yet.
i know i have decided that AWD=FTW!!

Honda's are SO much easier. I was just helping a buddy wire up the secondary 02 on his Civic yesterday. The Honda manuals just take a dump on the subaru manuals. I swapped the Type-R motor into the EK hatch (his civic used to be mine). Honda just engineers better than subaru does. Subaru seems to go out of their way to make swaps difficult. I had to switch the wiper motor even for my swap. The connectors were the same but, internally the wiper motor on the STI and WRX are wired differently.

The crossmember bolts to the frame rails. The transmission mounts bolt to the body, the dogbone has to come off, radiators needs to some out. AC and PS has to be disconnected or moved. If you're just stripping a car, it's the way to go. You ought to be able to just look at the car and see how it comes off. I'd probably pull the rack out from the crossmember so, it doesn't get damaged when you put the crossmember on the floor.

I'd build a plywood sled. I dropped them out onto the sled and then uses a come-along to hoist them out from under the car.

I did my swap through the bottom like this. I think I used a wooden creeper to pull it out on. I dropped it with an engine hoist on the engine and a jack on the tranny. Okay, apparently I did exactly what Kwan did. I assume you took out the propeller shaft already.

I had the engine and trans connected and was able to drop it in from the top...it wasn't too bad.
