Default Zex Nitrous 65 and 75 Shot

Sup everybody.

Alright, I have the Zex Nitrous Kit Installed and I already did a bottle w/ a 55 Shot. My question is how do you run a 65 or a 75 SHot. The reason I ask is because it says to be able to run the 65 and 75 shot you need to retard the timing 65 = 2 degrees and 75 = 4 degrees. How do you retard the timing. I know you need a timing gun but what exacxtly do you need to do. Can someone tell me in detail what I need to do. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you very much and hope you guys can be helpful.

I think you need to use APEXi Ignition Timing Controller or equivalant to change the timing on your car.

Default Yep!

tmat3 is right! As far as I know, our cars ignition timing is computer controlled. Even if you tried to manually set the timing, it would go back to stock settings. As far as I know, no-one has blown their car up using nitrous based on the timing being advanced to far (stock). I've never had a problem and I was running up to a 70 shot on my Outback Sport (with a 5psi turbokit).

It just goes to show how different our cars are. I'm assuming that as soon as the nitrous is engaged, our cars may possibly be detonating due to the stock timing being too advanced but I haven't heard/read much about this occuring. Just be sure to gap your plugs correctly (smaller) and to have higher than 93 octane in your engine (94+ recommended above 50shot. 50 shot I'd say 93 should be fine...just my opinion). Good luck!

I would assume that even without the ITC, the ECU is smart enough to retard the timing automatically because it would sense the knock from the knock sensor. Plus, isn't the ZEX kit connected to a fuel pressure vacuum line so that it would increase the fuel pressure to prevent any detonation?

I said you needed an ITC to change the timing, but I don't think you really need to use it. The timing is dynamically controlled on our cars.

Yes, The ignition time is retarded by the knock sensor. I also have the ZEX kit. I had the 55 shot in there and ran a 14.5. Then i put the 65 shot in and ran a 14.3. But i wouldnt push the stock fuel system too much. I have a new high flow fuel pump but i have yet to intall it. The 65 feels much different then the 55. The car seems like its about to take the hell off while being very in control. Im sure youll like it.

You all sound like crack addicts! I've been using the 55 since august, havent found a need to go with a larger one. I did get the bottle warmer though.

Do you think it is safe to run the 75 Shot with the Stock settings? Is anyone doing this and are you getting and knocks? I wanna run 75 shot. Ok fine I'll keep it at a safe 65 shot but only because you guys say so.

PEACE

Did all of you guys put it in the trunk of your car? I would like to put mine in the front seat but the bottle seems too big and if it does fit? I heard the line is not long enough for our cars.

I've been running a 75 shot on my car for the last 9 mo. or so. Car runs 13.9 in the 1/4. This is the highest you should go on stock fuel system and internals. Haven't had one problem with the system yet. (just minor clutch slippage which should be expected on stock clutch)

By the way I have the NX kit(wet system) for import cars.(pillable from 25-75hp) The kit cost was right around $500 for just the basics. To do it right add another 250-300 dollars. That gives heater, pres. guage, purge valve. Not all of these are needed, but the heater for sure is worth it.

Line was just barely, I'm talking a cu** hair, long enough. Sold my heater to a friend, so I have the bottle riding shotgun with me and just turn on the cars heater!

yes yes yes yes, hell ya, this is what Im talkin about, this is what I want to read about, you guys are already at a 65 shot?, damn I havent even filled the bottle yet, due to the fact Im waiting for my pressure gauge to get here, and my new intake, I didnt like the stock air box, and where the nozzle it supposed to go. I guess I'll try the 55, then the 65.
You dont have any other fuel mods do you guys?
try www.msdignition.com they may have some timing controllers that will work...maby?
Let me know if you have any other fuel mods, and any timing advances. Thanks

AndyM,

Hey whats going on man. Well it's been about a week and a half now since I did the install and I gotta tell you, it most definitely feels a world of a diffrence. I filled up my bottle and starsted off with a 55 shot. I went through a whole bottle at 55 shot and have not had a problem. No check engine light no nothing. So this week, I filled the bottle up and put in the 65 shot (No timing modifications). So far no problems at all without retarding the timing or anything like that. Seems like our cars computers retard themselves. Next week I'm gonna go for a 75 shot and see where it stands. No knock at all in either 55 shot or 75 shot.

Oh by the way, this week when I went to fill up my Nitrous bottle, I also went to Miami Opalaka Airport and filled up a 10 gallon jug of 103 Octane gas at $4.50 a gallon I used up all my premium gas and well filled up the tank half way. As soon as I turned on the car, I reved it up a bit to get some of the 103 gas into the lines and into the motor. Wow, what a difference. So I go off and drive around and make sure the gas in the mototr is 103 now. The car idles like if it was'nt even on. That quiet. So I get to the light and what do I see there at the light, a black Ford Lightning Supercharged F-150). So I pull next to him and rev it a bit. he revs hard and looks at me. thats when I knew it was on. With a 65 shot of nitrous I figured I could hang. I armed the nitrous, the light turned green, and for the first time in my life I peeled out with an AWD. All my four wheels peeled out and launched me about 4 car lenths in front of him. My car sort of fish tailed and kept pulling strong. We did about 10 blocks and I was amazed to see I was still ahead of him by like a car lenth and a half. I'm telling you guys, 103 Octane and Nitrous REALLY MIX WELL!! You need to try it some time. Turbo guys, get 103 octanne, it's a world of diffrence.

All this got me excited so I raced the whole night. Raced an Impala (1995/1996), Civics, Accords, Toyotas.. you name it... And I still have half a tank of it. I don;t condone racing but I do recommend 103+ Octande gas.

Write me back with your questions and info...

Are you sure you raced for 10 blocks or was it again and again for 10 blocks? 10 blocks is an aweful long way to race. You'd max out on your mph I would think.

Blocks on the street, not on the odometer I would imagine. Also "about" 10 blocks, 75 HP can make you think that you are actually traveling faster than you actually are.

Your "odometer" doesn't happen to be made by Butt Industries like my dyno, does it?

QKsilverRS is running a ZEX 75 shot with Walbro high pressure fuel pump, AEM intake, pulleys, and 2.5" catback with 91 octane and bottle of octane booster. That's all.

= 14.095 @ 94mph at 5,300 feet elevation

That is amzasing considering how a stock RS at this altitude is pulling a 17.5 qtr mile. I remember before he went to the drags telling him his RS felt like my RS-T at 7 psi boost! I figured the high altitude is preventing detonation with a 75 shot, and his car does 4WD peelouts too.

I would still worry about detonation at sea-level with less than 93 octane on a 75 shot, so be careful.

sold the fuel pump tongiht, think i can run the 75 shot on just 93 octane or do i need to stick with 65? the dude i bought it from was running 75 shot on a stock ford focus so i think if that could handle it the impreza should too.

i was trying to hook it up today and i tapped into the wrong fuel line and when i tured the key on it sprayed a bunch of gas into my intake! can anyone tell me exactly which line to tap into?

also, when i was at the local car shop their "import" guy said "youre gonna spray that" i said "yeah, whynot" he said "itll blow up, dude thats not a HONDA!"... this is the same guy who, when he 1st saw my car, said "too bad they dont make a wrx wagon. what a dipstick.
