Question Newer Baja owner here, I have some questions....

http://s145.photobucket.com/albums/r...mbe/New%20Car/

It looks a little bit different now, as I put quite a few KISS stickers on it.
Whenever I open the driver's side front door, the lights show that both front doors are open. I had a Car starter installed, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. All the other doors work singularly. Is this common?

My serpentine belt makes a loud squeak/squeal when I start the car most of the time... 75%. But it drives fine and doesn't make the sound when I'm driving. I took it into the dealership (actually a ford dealership because that is how I got it [long story] and it was still under warranty per say) and they couldn't get it to reproduce the sound. Anyone have this problem or a fix for it?

My last question is how is the BAJA speaker upgrade? Worth it, or any speakers better for the money... or better and cheaper?

Thanks.
I love my Baja.
All I get are compliments.

The door issue is not common to my knowledge, the squealing most likely is a combination of a 1. loose or worn belt, 2. battery may need to be replaced and is causing the alternator to work a little hard right after you start the car. As for the speaker upgrade, I did it to mine (tweeters and sub) and I was happy with it. I'm sure there are better speakers out there though.

Ours has never had an issue of it showing both front doors open. It sounds like someone must have tapped a line on that system to install something if this issue started about the same time you had the car starter installed.

If the belt squeals when you start it then you either need a new belt or the idler pulley is worn or loose.. Check the pulley that maintains the tension is tight and does not wobble. If it is okay then the belt may have stretched so far it cannot compensate for it. If so, install a new belt. Easy to do yourself.

I agree, the door issue is not common. Whoever installed the car starter may have crossed a wire or two. The squealing maybe a worn serpentine belt, bearing in the tensioner, or the alternator.
I installed my own speakers because the "factory upgrade speakers" suck! I used Pioneer 3-Way 180watt speakers and they cost me around $100 for all four of them (I kept the factory tweeters) and then another $100 for a subwoofer. My Baja now Rocks!

You didn't say how many miles are on it but you need to replace that belt at 100000 miles which I did with mine as it was at that when I bought it a few months ago. I love mine too and it looks just like yours.........Haven't had the light problem. Don't know about my speakers but have an aftermarket radio in there...........No complaints with mine at all.............Pete L.

just did a complete speaker overhaul and i would highly suggest NOT getting the "baja speaker upgrade" You can easily spend the same (or less) amount of money on nice aftermarket speakers and get A LOT better sound quality. Have you ever had a car that had nice factory speakers, but after awhile, replaced them and just was wowed by how cheap they looked when you took them out, and had the new speakers completely destroy the stock ones in sound quality? that's how it would be to put "premium" baja speakers in, they're still not as good as aftermarket. I think anyone who's done any car audio would agree with me.

Default Speaker Upgrade

I just purchased a set of four Kicker DS600 speakers for my Baja from Crutchfield. very easy to get door panels off and the speakers fit in fine.

Belt sounds like it needs replacing. Have a forester that appeared to be having power steering pump problems when cold but it turned out to be loose belt, (that was the first time I have ever seen that one).

If you do upgrade your speakers- be careful of the depth. You don't want problems, after the install, with rolling the window down!
Crutchfield is an excellent place to buy them from.......unless you have a friend that owns a stereo shop!

Thanks to everyone who repsonded about the speakers. It'll be a while before I do it anyway.
A new CD player is going in today, so I can plug my iPod directly in.

I figured it was something from the car starter. Seemingly no other problems so its fine by me.

Car has 83,000 miles.
I'll closely inspect the belt and Idler pulley and tensioner. From what I remember, the belt is really tight.

Is there a part number or brand belt that anyone recomends?

Either a new belt is needed or the existing needs to be tightened.

If it was replaced they should have the work order saying it was. Demand to see the work order for the 100k service. It is a rather large service and not just an oil change. If they just did an oil change, have them knock off a bunch as you will now have to pay for the belts, tranny fluid changes etc.

Ours has over 100k and is still running like new.

I had a chance to check out the belt the other day, and I must say the belts look really good and tight. Now it makes me wonder, if that's not it, what could it be.
