Gonna see if they'll let me drive it next weekend.

Why wouldn't they let you? You just pay a lap fee and go bananas.

Yeah there's places you can rent basic caged cars to go rip it up. A friend of mine was going to rent one of these cool little alfa's that came with an instructor for a couple laps to initially show you the ropes. Most "normal" car rental places will specify that you cannot take the car to the track.

It's a public road though, so you can drive whatever the hell you want there. As long as you are legal to drive a car in germany there's no reason why they wouldn't "let" you drive it.

I'm hoping the rental car agency doesn't say anything about it. I've signed up for a bmw 3 series for the weekend. Otherwise, I'll rent a car in nurburg for a couple laps. It should be fun either way!

Damn you're lucky, I was just talking about the nurburgring while out for dinner with the gf as she is planning our trip to europe and I told her it is a must. Lay down a sub 8 minute time and make us all proud!

How would they know unless you crash?
Just rent it and go, I know a bunch of people who have done this over the years.
Even if you go tame it will be a great experience to drive it!

Yeah, it will definitely say in your rental contract that you are not allowed to drive the ring, but voiding your insurance is about all they can do as far as I know. Might want to do a bit of research first and make sure there are no additional laws in place to protect the rental agencies and/or cause problems for you.

Just be careful out there on the rental car tires and you should have a fantastic trip.

Some rental car companies monitor ring photo websites and may blacklist you or bill you for a new set of tires. If you want to be safe, there's always rent-racecar.de.

Who cares if you get black listed? Just do it! OR, rent farther away if you are travelling a lot. The farther a way the less chance they would have backup plans for checking up on their rental cars and their uses.

Leaving breakfast in Munich right now. Gonna take the 6 hour, scenic drive up part of the "romantic road" to Wurzberg, then it's on to Nurburgring!!

Gonna see how fast our rented Mercedes will go!

She got up to 215 on a straight, downhill stretch today. The autobahns are so very nice to drive on. Perfect surface, no standing water anywhere...

It was raining today, so it felt kinda scary going that fast. We'll try again tomorrow if the weather's better. I don't think she'll get going much faster than that, though. 6th gear is too tall, and you can't just rev it up in 5th. Damn diesel starts topping out just over 4k...

tomorrow: Nurburgring!
