Question Will the WRX turbo back fit on a GC8 motor swap?

I am about to do a motor swap and am wondering if a WRX turbo back exhaust system will fit on my '93 Impreza?

Thanks!

Well, I can tell you right off that the middle muffler mount location is off a few inches, but it should still work. Not sure about the trans. crossmember fitment, though.

So you have tried some exchanging already. If you don't mind me asking what is your set up right now?
By the way do you mean the hanger is off by a few inches or the way the pipe bends?
I will be swapping to a turbo cross member so that might help.....
If it is just the hangers that are not in the right place it would be an easy swap
I just need a WRX to pull the exhaust off of so I can do a little comparison testing.

Well, I've seen tailpipe sections put onto RS's, not sure about the midpipe, but it looks the same to me. The DP should be ok, but I'm not sure... the body line might be different under there.

My current setup? Stock other then a clutch & flywheel. Previously Ludespeed stg. II/III turbo'd... had a bit of an engine management problem, not to mention a few others (unrelated to the kit).

The WRX Turbo back exhaust will fit, I have it on my car. I'm also using the WRX midpipe.

The entire section does fit, though due to the Legacy uppipe that I am currently using, the downpipe sags a little causing the exhaust to hang just a bit (maybe an inch or two) lower than stock. The nice thing about this type of setup is that it costs nothing! I paid $120 for my turbo-back exhaust.

Oh, and you will need to have an O2 sensor welded in. Mine is right before the cat in the downpipe, no CEL either.

I'm also using the turbo crossmember.

Thanks Complex and Graham.
Graham,
That is an awesome deal for a turbo back. Did you have to have any of the hangers moved or did it fit right on? Also what year is your car and did you do a motor swap or a turbo kit?

Thanks again.

I did a turbo kit on my MY01 RS. As far as having to change the hangers and what not, I think you do, but a fabrication shop put it in for me so I can't be sure. Oh, also, I have a 2.5" Stromung axle back muffler that had to have a flange rotated to accomodate the WRX rear section.

Suberboy,

I am using full wrx exhaust system on my hybrid right now. I don't think the hangers were changed.

Cal,
What car did your EJ20 come out of? I am wondering because I am getting a Japanese version and want to know if the stock location of the turbo conflicts with the steering asemblie at all? Maybe that is a dumb question but I was thinking the turbo might be, imagine you are sitting in the car, on the left side instead of the right side.... Hmmmmmm, just trying to keep the surprises to a minimum when I get the motor.

Thanks

suberboy,

my motor is USDM 2002 wrx motor. IIRC, the JDM ej20 turbo is located at the right side as well. with JDM motor, you need to re-route the steering assembly from right to left. man, thats going to be a lot of work! wow.. good luck man.. but once you are finished, you car will fly! JDM motors are just that much faster! NICE!

good luck,

Cal

Thanks for all the input everyone. Sounds like there won't be any problems using the WRX exhaust. Now do any of you know how much different the exhaust off an'01 Japanese STi is compared to our WRX's exhaust? I'm wondering if the pipe diameter is any bigger, and if it has the same number of cat's or? There is an '01 STi turbo back exhaust for sale for a decent price and I'm trying to figure out if it is worth as much as they are asking....
