Default What would you do? 2.5L DOHC to SOHC in '98 RS

Got a '98 2.5RS. Bought it with the assumption that the timing belt snapped. Pulled the timing cover off and found this:

I think a cam or the water pump seized and the pulley couldn't handle the torque and cracked. I'm assuming the heads at a minimum need to be rebuilt.

So I found a SOHC 2.5 from a 2001 2.5RS with low miles for a good price:

I was planning on just swapping the 2 engines but after a little reading it seems that this is not a "subarus are legos" affair.

1. Sell the SOHC, rebuild DOHC?
2. Swap SOHC (what is all involved?)
3. Some frankenstein?

I have no interest in doing a turbo engine in this. I want to do this on a modest budget.

Thanks guys!

the SOHC cost me $300 with only 72k miles on it. Wish I could use it.
