Exclamation vf 43 or vf 48 install on 03 wrx

I am looking to upgrade my 03 WRX turbo. I have been told that the vf43 and vf48 are the new versions of the vf 34 and vf 39. I also researched that the vf 39 or vf34 tend to crack and have wastegate issues.

My tuner said he would rather see me go with IHI turbo than a blouch. He thinks the IHI are more reliable.

I am looking to make 300whp and am trying to decide between these turbos? The car is catless w/sti TMIC and will be doing an open stock ecu reflash tune on dyno dynamics.

thanks for your input!!!!!!!!

On a IHI turbo, you will more likely make around 285whp (seems to be what most people make on the 2.0's) but as far as reliable, Blouch makes very reliable parts. If you went with a blouch evoIII 16g, you will def reach your 300whp goal. This Friday I am about to install my vf34 (haven't really heard of these turbo's cracking around the waste gates like the 39's) and I am expecting to make around 280whp, give or take. However the numbers don't mean much to me since most dyno's all read differently. To me, it's how it compares to other cars and how it does at the track. If you do go IHI, or anything else for that matter, you will need larger injectors (06-07 wrx (565cc) injectors or sti pinks will work fine) and a walbro 255fp.

between the 43 and 48 the 48 is a better turbo. Ive had the TDO4, VF39 and now the vf48. The 48 has a better mid/top than the 39. i have the vf48 on my 06 and i like it alot . But it would also be great for the 2.0l.

You can get to your goals on a dynojet depending on altitude and a couple other factors. But your toque #s will be lower on the 2.0l

Yea but it all depends on the dyno. Here in utah at 5000ft above sea level my 48 made 250 whp 280wtq on cobbs mustang "Heart Breaker" and on a dynojet at 2300ft asl it made 307whp and 329 wtq. Just goes to show it all depends on the dyno.

Very true. I usually just rely on how it compares to other cars.

You can't really go wrong with either one. Pretty much the same turbo. I have a 43 on my 02 WRX and the car is a blast to drive.

Just for estimates, tuned on E85 running about 18-19 psi, the road dyno says about 280 whp on mine...

Is the VF48 a direct bolt on for 2.0L?

Yes it is.

VF-39 is identical to the VF-43 for all purposes.
VF-48 no one is 100% sure of, it is definitely the same as a 39, but may have more top end depending on which rumor you believe.
There are many flavors of 16g and they should all spool a touch faster than any 39/43/48 and will match or beat top end depending on which flavor you get.

While IHI turbos are reliable, Mitsubishi turbos are just as reliable and you can rebuild them if they go bad. IHI turbos are throwaway units.

If you are thinking of a Blouch, send me a PM and I'll get you a discount on a new unit through my ninja sources.
