Default hopefully not a noob question..

i just posted in the exhaust sticky thread above...but figured i could probably get a better response with a post.

i dont wanna sound like a complete noob or anything...i have an 02 RS...and i havent really done much to it cause i planned on saving up for a wrx...but plans changed and i wanna get rid of my exhaust i have now, so i have been kinda shopping around and looking at what people have and what not...but sadly i dont kno much about the exhaust systems for the rs...looks like alot of people are going with borla headers, which i probably will do as well and go the unequal route..and then i would like something like the apexi N1 for an axel back? not sure if that would work...and then would i need a mid pipe as well?? haha. and im assuming a tune would be a good thing too after all that??

Nice ride Dstan.

Go youtube wow, and there is a treasure trove of neverending exhaust vids. Wow, you can go crazy with all the different sounds and techniques of different exhaust parts. I wish those camera phone vids would just get taken down cause its almost a waste of time and no HD. haha j/k

My fave has got to be unequal headers, 3" down, SRS system for cheap on ebay. Or 3" turbo back

Or I like the blitz NUR spec r? That sounds really nice too, to me anyway.

I like the way that Ebay SRS system sounds personally, and it seems cheap as heck.

those kakimoto-r mufflers sound really unique with a lot of bite in your eardrums.

Yeah correct me if I'm wrong but I think that WRX cat backs bolt right on to the corresponding n/a impreza with little to no modification needed. Some WRX exhausts utilize a 3" diameter which is too large for an N/A engine so a 2.5" would be preferrable for an impreza.

Wrong.

The 06+ 2.5i's share a flange with the same-year WRX and STi for the axleback. So you can bolt on a stock axleback from a WRX or STi to a RS. However, everything forwards from that is different.

With the 05 and older cars, the are no common components between the RS and WRX/STi, so using WRX/STi parts on the RS will require custom welding.

2.25" is most common diameter, but 2.5" is still decent. if u can get ur hands on a stromung catback, do it. i love the sound my car has! good luck

The answer to your question about the mid pipe, you can either use your stock mid pipe, or (which i recommend) is get a new mid pipe with a high flow cat or a catless track pipe. Both can be ordered through boxer4racing.com, as well as the apexi catback you are talking about. I have borla uel's, stromung high flow catpipe, and apexi N1 catback.

I went with borla headers, random tech high flow cat and mid pipe and the tail section from Xcceleration.com with 4" opening. I like the sound. Real meaty low rumble but really barks when your get over 3500-4k rpm. Ive had this set up for 3 years now with no problems and its my DD. Sorry no sound clip. Its lower tone than the first vid posted. Been told it sounds like a harley at cruise speed.

You can get the apexi catback from boxer4racing.com. You have to call them bc its a special order and the part isnt listed on thier website.

It isnt a MUST on tuning it. However a good tune with an intake and full exhaust definitly gives u alot more bang for your buck with your parts. I am waiting on the accessport from rallitek. When it is available, better believe my car will be tuned.
