Question 2007 Impreza CEL FROM INTAKE???

So I am looking at a 2007 Impreza with 24k on the clock, it has a check engine light on in it, the owner said they took it to auto parts store and they said it was because he has a CAI on it and if he put the stock intake back on it would go out.... This doesnt sound right to me... Can anyone confirm this is a possibility or not??? THanks

If it's a different sized piping, the engine could be running lean.

Sounds like they reversed the MAF sensor when installing the new CAI!

ehh id walk away. Seeing that it has a salvage title, and a cf hood basically means it had to have a nice whack to the front end i bet. And looking at the pics and how it was repaired it was red neck rigged back together. What really makes me wonder is after a car is salvaged it has to pass inspection, and without a airbag (which i think it is illegal to sell a car without one) how did he pass.

ask him for a test drive, take it to the parts store and see the code for yourself. If the airbag has deployed, use caution when buying. If they're trying to get rid of it, lowball him and use the savings on a decent engine. just make sure that the frame is ok.

i would not pay more then 4k for that... the hood is not on there right, the air bad is missing, and i can see the damage to the front rail. if the air bag went off it had to be a pretty good crash...

on a side note... who would trade a bmw for that? unless it was a really old one...
