Default Possible Fluid leak question

I had my WRX in for its second oil change today, and the mechanic called me to tell me he found a thin, sticky fluid on the drive shaft, around the speedometer sensor.

He didn't notice any fluid levels being low, and thought that it may have been a factory coating or something.

Have any of you found this on your cars?

its an anti-rust agent, usually have it all over the tranny, firewall and ontop of the intercooler as well.

It's not bad or anything, but it just shows than some little man in Japan went a little wild with his goo gun.

Actually it IS and anti rust protectant they spray on parts because they are shipped in those big crate things overseas and they dont want the salt water eating anything, also if you remember when the car was new youu smelt it burning off, its called cosmoline or something similiar to it.

Which dealer did you take your car to? Seems they should have had a clue as to what it was, not what it might be....
