Cool Sad story

Wife and I took a ride to Bennington, Vt. today, and stopped at the Subaru dealership to take a look around.
At the back of the building sat a 2005 all black BAJA Turbo, hood partly open and all tires going flat!
As I was standing there, a salesman came out and told me this story:
It seems that the owner of the BAJA let the engine blow up by doing NO maintenance to his car at all, even though the dealership telling him that it was due and then overdue! The BAJA was now just sitting there, as the owner and the bank are in "discussion" about the fate of it! Plates are not on the car, so from an outsiders point of view, and naturally not knowing the full story, it seems a rather sad way for whatever happens to it.
Oh, and FWIW, the salesman stated to me that he wishes he could find any used BAJA's, anywheres in good condition, as he has a waiting list for them. I have been hearing more and more of this lately!
Oh well, I've still got mine!
Keep it under 90, folks!

Awwwwwww. What a sad state for the Baja to be in. Some people just don't care about their cars. It sounds like it was such a good one too.

the positive side to this is that someone might get a great price for a modding platform. Full 07 sti drivetrain!

My thoughts exactly... except I'd opt for the '09 WRX engine.

Post Has anyone gotten a similar letter from your dealership?

First of all, I would like to say hi to everyone. I am new here. I am trying to find a solution for a problem with my Baja and I thought it would be good to ask another owner... now regarding this post:

"Oh, and FWIW, the salesman stated to me that he wishes he could find any used BAJA's, anywheres in good condition, as he has a waiting list for them. I have been hearing more and more of this lately! "

Not three weeks ago, ok maybe four. I got a letter from my Subaru dealership here in Sacramento. The letter said that they would like to do an inspection on my Baja and make me an offer. If I find that letter I will see if I can post a PDF or GPEG of it. I was taken by surprise, since they know I love my car and I take good care of it. This is my first Subaru, the fourth one in my family, and although I have been hearing a lot of "bad" stuff from the 03 model mine has not given me any major trouble at all.

I get a letter from my dealer every three or months months making an offer to buy my Baja. I always tossed them, thinking they were just trying to get me into a new vehicle. Till I got a handwritten note basically saying they have someone wanting a Baja really bad.

I called the number for the salesman, and he just quoted a price, sight unseen (they do have my service records of course) that was, let's say very tempting. I turned it down, because I really like my Baja.

I have an '03 and never had any problems with mine. From what I have read, it seems like people are going to have issues with pretty much any year. Not in a bad way, I mean, they're built very well. I just meant that it's a car and there's going to be issues with mechanical parts eventually.
Does the '03 have more issues? Not from my experience. I beat mine up and it's handling it very well.
I know other '03 owners who have had no issues as well. Soooo, I can't really say. I do know that Baja's do seem to be highly sought after now.

HAHA! That's great! I love the handwritten letter. 'No really, we want to buy your Baja...' Unless they quoted me a crazy price that would allow me to buy another one, then I wouldn't sell mine either. I LOVE my Baja.

Well they don't have much else to do these days. Sorry, I had to say that, because I get the same letter every half year or so.

I'm going to hang on to mine for a long time unless they come out with a new "Baja". With only approximately 30-40K of them on the road, we'll be getting offers all the time years from now.

After last years Subaru business meeting, I heard one of the guys there is close to someone on the inside and said it would make a return in the new body. That was the first and last time I heard that rumor. I may trade my 05 in for one in the new body if it does.

5-6 weeks ago I lost control of my baja and hit a tree, totalling the car. I had not a scratch, but everything in front of the a-pillar was scrunched, mashed, or erased. (I don't wanna hear woulda-coulda-shoulda taken xyz parts off. It made me sick to look at, so that was that.)

I had 13 grand left in payments. Geico worked with me and gave me 15,000 for the car, so I was able to pay off my lien and get into a car quick and easy. I miss her a lot. One of few race-ready bajas down. :-(

Aw man, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I knew you said you had hit a tree, but I didn't think it was that bad! I've been looking for your car ever since, and you had done a great job on modding it!
If you are interested, I saw on line a BAJA like mine available in I think the Tampa area going for about $15,000. I can't remember the site exactly, but I am sure you can find it.
Damn, now I'm back to being the only BAJA in town, bummer!
I am glad that you are ok. I hope to see you around soon. Take care buddy!

Oh no! Glad you're ok.

Like others have said, nothing shy of Baja gen 2 will make us upgrade. Those rumors from SOA seem to happen frequently to gauge demand. Had the Baja been around during $4/gallon gas, they wouldn't have been able to build 'em fast enough.

Indeed I have wondered what they would offer for mine as well. The dealer has aked if I would sell it back several times when itís been in for maintenance.

The 09 WRX temps me allot lately or possibly the 2010 STi if it actually came in sedan again.
