In October 2011, actor and stand-up comedian Jeff Ragsdale was suffering from a painful breakup. In an attempt to connect with others, Ragsdale posted flyers around New York City. They stated the following: “If anyone wants to talk about anything, call me”, followed by his phone number and signed “Jeff, one lonely guy” . Much to Ragsdale’s surprise, he received approximately one hundred calls and texts within one day of posting his first flyer in lower Manhattan. In a short amount of time, the “one lonely guy” flyer went viral, after an image of the flyer was circulated on Reddit.After the flyer’s image appeared on the Internet, Ragsdale began to receive, hundreds of calls and texts each day. Internet exposure created an international awareness to the flyer. Ragsdale has received calls and texts from locations around the world, including Switzerland, Australia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Viet Nam, France,England, South Korea, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, New Zealand, Russia, China, Thailand. Calls and texts continue to come to Ragsdale; to date he has received more than 70,000 calls and texts.
