Default Advice on a speeding ticket(non-camera)

I've been thinking about this for awhile now & I can't make up my mind about which course of action I should pursue. Here is the story: I get a call at 6am on 4-21-2009 from my Daughters mom out in Cali. She tells me that my Daughters Grandfather was in a really bad accident at work (ran over by his pick up truck) and had only a 1% chance of making it through the life-flight ride to the hospital in San Diego. The man is 72 & means the world to my Daughter who is 14. They ask if I can get my Daughter out to Yuma asap to meet up with her Aunt who will drive her up to San Diego to be with her family & see him hopefully before he passes away....So of course I'm like, "holy s**t, I'm leaving now"! He's not related to me, but he is a real stand up guy.
So I get pulled over by a DPS officer going 105 in a 75 out by Dateland! As soon as I saw him pull out I pulled over to the side of the road & waited. First thing he says to me is,"you know I can take you to jail right now". He then sees that my daughter is crying & asks me what the hurry is. I explain the situation to him & that I NEVER drive like that normally. He was very understanding & wrote me up at 85+ and lets me go. He tells me that I should get documentation for the accident & go show the judge in court. He says she might be understanding enough to dismiss the ticket.
So here is my question: #1 Should I wait untill the court date, drive out to Witman for court & take my chances with getting a dismissal or paying and having it on my insurance? Or #2: Just take the class & not have to worry about it going on my insurance & increasing my rates??
I keep going back & forth over this so any advice from previous experiences would be much appreciated!
BTW, he pulled through & is doing better every day! The truck broke his foot, drove up his leg, broke EVERY rib front & back, punctured both lungs, drove across his face shattering his dentures, tearing his lip & tounge. The doctors couldn't believe he made it, especially for his age. He is my new idol!!

Wow thats crazy. Glad he's doing better.

You are kinda in a pickle. If you get a sympathetic judge then maybe he will drop it. You just never know.

Thats what Im' thinking! Hate to bet my driving record on a judge I don't know...Would be nice to save the cash by getting a dismissal, but its a pretty big chance to take!

Michelle took hers online. but she got hers in california. the ticket had a website that had a list of different sites you could go to so you can take the class online. didn't cost much

of course, she doesn't remember which one she did.

found this for $33

A lot of times they try to scare you by saying you can't take driving school if you go to court, but I've heard of plenty of cases where people lose in court and request driving school and they're granted the request.

My grandfather got a photo radar ticket taking my grandmother to the emergency room a few months ago and he had zero trouble o getting out of it in court by stating a provong the emergency.

I dunno, you always gamble when you go to court.

So you are saying that if the judge decides not to throw out the ticket, I can request more time to take driving school so it won't affect my record? That sounds like a win, win to me. Best case scenerio I get the ticket tossed out, worse case scenerio I just take driving school...Are you sure it works that way? If it does then this is what I will do. Thanks for the input guys! Can always count on my fellow SWIC'ers for help. Well, as long as I'm not ripping people off for parts or anything like that.....Bluesube3 u hear me??lol

you can always request school if they shoot you down in court.. it's not a guarentee though. I would personally just do school. I did not have good luck in the courts in AZ when I lived there.. they want money. that's about all. be ready for a kangaroo court. good luck.

Especially DPS. They're being complete jerks about the whole photo-radar scam they're running, even when the DA says he won't prosecute (IIRC).
