Default WRB on the outside- Navy in the engine bay?

I own an 09 WRX sedan and just noticed for the first time- the engine bay is almost the same color as the 555 2.5's of old. Anyone know why the engine bay is Navy and not the same color as the rest of the car?

Is this true of all colors?

I thought it may be a rust proof primer and they didn't paint to save some dough (or as they will say.....weight)

Thanks!

Not positive, but I think the pearl is a second coat over the color, so the blue you see under the hood is the base color coat without the pearl overcoat.

Correct. Why use an expensive coat of paint in an area that does not matter. VAVE

Makes sense with pearl being more specialized and $$$. Interesting to see the difference in color as it is quite a bit different.

Thanks for the insight.
