Angry Columbus : fed up with my clutch

Went over to Byers (near the airport) and made an apointment for Monday. I am SO fed up with the cold-start clutch chatter that has been getting progessively worse. Now its like having to
drive with someone that doesn't know clutch. ARGH!

They seem to have a new guy as the service writer. Same old white haired fellow is the tech still. Says they may need to keep it overnight to see whats up.

Hopefully this doesn't go badly. I'll be ALL over the dealer and SoA otherwise.

Ed

I've got the same thing with my car. Let me know what happens.

It is really annoying.

Have you tried revving to 5k and stepping off of the clutch? After I hit my clutch if stops complaining and starts taking notes.

Um.

I think that the real problem is the hydraulic actuation of the clutch not letting the clutch engage quickly or smoothly enough. When I dump the clutch in my car it goes in real nice. If I try to gently slip in a little clutch it bucks all over the place and sounds like the transmission is rogering the firewall.

Then again, I have a copper faced clutch.

Never mind. Good night.

Check in the Warrantee forum. I thought there was a thread in there about the clutch chatter.

Lately, my clutch chatter has been better. But, it's also been warmer out.

Definitely, very temp dependant. Drives me nuts sometimes. But it always goes away after a couple miles.

im in agreement with the other dude, mine does this when cold too. its not as bad if i do slow slips from around 2K rpms. And its always better after a weekend of racing. Try a few 5K rpm slips, burn a little clutch once in a while.

Seems like there's a lot of drivetrain problems going around these days.

The dealership finally got aroudn to looking at my car yesterday and i did infact manage to detonate my rear diff. They quoted me like $925 for parts and labor. Ouch!!

So now the search begins for a wrecked 96 impreza in a junkyard somewhere. I woudl appreciate it if you guys could keep a look out for one somewhere if you have the chance.

Good luck to you with your clutch Ed.

Ouch is right.

I was afraid it might be that high. Was it the Diff for sure? They probably won't know until they take it apart. Those pieces back there aren't cheap.

Rob for $925 you could buy and install a rear quaiffe (well almost)

We will see what happens. I'll go hit the warrenty forum and read up. I seem to have a repetitive "cam sensor" light on as well. They've already given me crap about mods, but I intend to whip out the law on that one.

Default Byers VERY VERY mod unfriendly.

Well took the car over and the new guy and the service manager both started pulling the "SoA won't pay for modded vehicles to be warrentied". VERY non-work-withable, not even willing to listen to the law or the fact that my mods have ZIP to do with the problem I wanted LOOKED AT.

Time for some calls to SoA and consultation with a lawyer.
At this point an STi is looking very unlikely if this goes badly.
First time I have an issue, its well documented and they went
and even re-designed the damn parts!, and they won't
listen? **** Byers. No more buisness from me!

I hear that their is a guy named Chad in the service department at "Byers Mazda Subaru", that is cool with mods. The one near Sawmill. He has an RS with a Rimmer SC on it. Take it to them. I would still contact SOA though.

Good Luck!

Chad's not in the service department, he's a salesman. They've never said anythign to me about my mods when i've been there, butthen again none of it's warranty work so i don't know how they are abotu that stuff. I always deal with Ed at the service desk, he's always been nice to me and helped me out as much as he can. Just my thoughts on it all.
