Three-wheeled city car is winning entry to Peugeot's annual design competition

Concepts don’t get any more out-there than this! But according to Peugeot it’s exactly what we’ll all be driving in the ‘worldwide megalopolis of tomorrow’. The three-wheeled vision of future inner-city transport is the winning entry to Peugeot’s annual design competition, and a full-size clay model was on display in Shanghai.

The single-seater RD Concept shuns an internal combustion engine in favour of an all-electric powertrain, and makes do with just three wheels in contact with the floor. The idea behind this is to deliver all the fun of a three-wheel scooter that leans into bends, while maintaining the ride comfort of a family saloon.

This year’s competition attracted over 2,500 applications, but the man behind the winning proposal was the elaborately named 27-year old Columbian designer Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar (pictured). For his efforts the aspiring stylist received a cheque for 10,000 euros and an XBOX 360 games console
