Not wut you think. It's about the commercials. In the last coupla days, I have seen more WRX commercials than the new Civic! Arrrghh!!! It is giving me the chills that the WRX is being advertised more than a civic! I know Subaru needs to get the word out about their performance flagship.
Still enjoy all of those WRX commercials tho. THe blue one is the best of all!!!

They need new commercials.
Subaru should just give us i-club members a camera crew for a day and let us go to town on a dirt track. |

Right! (mumbles something)
When the Civic was a new car, just introduced in this country there were just as many ads running for iT. The WRX is the main character in the new Impreza model line. [This message has been edited by OldWRXr (edited April 23, 2001).] |

I'll repeat myself from another post in a topic about sales being up for the Impreza line:
The Japanese economy is seriously down. People there are cutting back in all kinds of ways because of worry over the economy becoming even worse. They are catering to an American market that is very demanding. They are smart. It is working....... |

Looks like the WRX may have a little competition if the new Civic Type R hits these shores. Saw some pictures and article in the latest issue CAR (Brit) mag and it looks very nice with 200HP. We have a Civic in the family and I've owned Honda's before. Nice little car, but needs work to look unique unlike the WRX and RS that look nice without any mods. Scoobies are still a unique car and will never be as popular as Civics. Hondas are for "Everyman" and Scoobies are for thinking/performance people.

heres some news for you all,
the SI is not available in he new Civic line up. Hehehe, they must have given up. But when they see the subaru WRX sales it may not be for long. But then the subi guys may figure they have to break out the heavy artillary and throw the STI into the battle. I figure its a win, win for us. Geez i have only had my 01 RS for two weeks, but guess what the day the STI is released, my name will be on the list. By then i should have a nice 01 JC Sports turbo charged RS for sale. Tell your honda pals to start saving. ![]() |

I dont think you guys give enough credit to other companies. not singling out people just on this post but through out this whole forum lots and lots of people talk smack about a lot of cars and i dont think many people on this forum give the reginition of hondas nissan and toyota. yes i believe subaru is a great company but i dont think the wrx is the ultimante car. you can take a honda civic hatch for 6 grand throw in a b18 engine and a turbo kit with suspension wheels tires and you got a car that will out perform a wrx maybe not in the rain or in the snow but it will go faster and might even handle better. also that set up would cost you nowhere near 25 grand. what i am trying to say is that just b/c there are people out there that buy civics and teggys b/c they can make them look good doesnt mean all of them are. (my bro for instance doesnt care about looks and only goes for performance in his 5th gen prelude thats what i am going for too with my wrx)i would have to say the new rsx will be a big challenge to the wrx it may have 27 hp less but i can bet the rsx will be a lot lighter. just blabbering.

WillReckXhop - don't take it so seriously hehe, this board is not unlike many others in that you'll hear ignorance, just in different forms, haha, ive heard stupider things here than on even the beretta board (only went once, hehe)... i attribute it to the fact that most members here are anti-everything conservative republicans who are already ignorant, too cynical to change their honda-hating ways, despite how many of them are former honda owners, hehe
OH MAN! this one post (bout a year ago) had an elaborate and ridiculous rant against the entire notion of variable valve timing like the whole thing was just some crazy "ricer fad" indifferent from a type R badge, hehe, just watch the posts for awhile like i did and you'll jus not care anymore, its entertaining at times ![]() |

interesting to see that they decided to "focus" on a hatch version.

hmm? was sommeone saying a front wheel drive car out handling an All-wheel drive vehicle? I am thinking-hmm, all-wheel drive banned from many forms of racing. lets see, rex-awd, lancer-awd, cyclone S-10-awd, 911carrera4-awd, lamborgini diablo-awd, honda-you get the picture. Yes these are different awd sistems (i.e.lamborgini permenant power to rear, carerra4 20/80 split under hard acceleration)
yes this has a lot to do with traction, but I am pretty sure traction has something to do with handling. There are some outstanding handling 2wd drive vehicles that are front engine rear wheel and especially mid engine cars, but a ligitimate front and front, come on. |

The latest Canadian civic ad among others that are showing on the TV is the one with jacque villeneuve on this orange civic. well they simulate a pit lane session whereby at the traffic lights where by the "pit crews" were squegee kids. Anyways after showing off the vtec revs a bit, it says... "in every Honda car, there's a Honda engine." huh?! you mean it's not a Harley engine?!
Well the best one is still the "Who lets the dogs out" version. ![]() |

Whoa there guy, there are several FF cars that could hand the WRX it's ass even in the twisties. The Euro/Jap spec Integra TypeR being one of them. AWD is great, especially for a relatively inexperienced driver, but FF cars can be pushed just as hard through the twisty bits. I have easily kept up with modified Impreza RS's in the twisties in my heavy FF 125hp Saab. Look at the BTCC if you want to see what incredible levels FF cars can be pushed to. Volvo S40, Nissan Primera, etc. There are production model FF Peugeots that could easily dust the WRX. The STi is another story however... ![]() All that being said, I would buy the WRX over any of those cars, and I am... |

I think you hit the nail right on the head when you mentioned something on driver skill.
Perhaps when you beat Mccrae or burns (hmm, similar thread going on right now) in a impreza rs with your saab bragging rights will be yours. Perhaps a front and front can be pushed far but in the twisties you can bring an AWD vehicle back from impossible angles. I want some hard facts please. |

Someone said that the WRX isn't the ultimate car. Sure that’s true but NO car is the ultimate car. The ultimate car would out perform any car in the world in any condition, have the perfect feel / drivers experience and be cheap. In my opinion, the WRX makes a better compromise than any other car towards this impossible goal.
I own a car that just feels perfect. The way the seat holds me in place firmly yet comfortably. The feeling of perfect grip and feeling through the awesome steering wheel. The ability to adjust the steeling wheel and seat height to your ideal driver position. The feeling of throttling the car coming out of a turn, dry, wet, gravel, it doesn’t matter… That’s just what the driver gets to feel. What other people see is a car that can do 0-60 less than 6 seconds stock and can pin you to your seat with mid 14 sec ¼ miles. Sure the car can do this and these numbers are great but the manner in which the car does it is incredible. Never have I felt such a great driver experience except in a Supernatural ZR-1. I’ve driven some fast FF cars in my time and I just feel way more confident in a FR or AWD car in the way the power gets delivered to the road. So on top of all this the car is very unique has a great interior, a big trunk, cool stereo and guess what? I paid less than $24K for it all! Sure I could make a Yugo go as fast as my WRX for $24K, but numbers aren’t everything (even though the WRX will spank most <$35K cars at numbers too). Oh, and it gets a warranty too for all the cheap performance! For me the WRX is my ultimate car!!! I love it!!! -BrianK |

I can think of one front-wheel drive car that beat Burns & everyone else in the WRC:
The Citroen Csara Kit Car, which is a FWD car and won the Catalunya and Corsica WRC races (Round 5 and 6) in 1999. Of course these were asphalt moslty if not all races. (I know that the car is lighter, etc. etc. but still it won) [This message has been edited by Miro (edited April 24, 2001).] |

the peugeots were front wheel drive up to like a year ago, and they OWNED the tarmac rallies...
the integra type R handles the same if not better than a WRX, and its FF... Quote:
