They are people, therefore they have opinions.

If you watch till the end the STI still beat the "normal" Evo X's lap time. The FQ may have beat it but thats a little unfair comparison. And on that track I doubt power was the issue...

I'm actually quite amazed the STI beat the EvoX...

They are allowed to have opinions, but if they're going to compare a tuner car to a stock car how can we actually take them seriously? They spent over half the episode bashing the STi because it's not as sharp as a modified EVO, like that fact is a big surprise to any car enthusiast.

The fact that the STi beat the normal EVO at least says something. IIRC they also said the STi costs significantly less than the normal EVO. I can't imagine how much more expensive the FQ must be.

Some vids for the OP:

And this clip (STi vs FQ300 STIG lap) is from the SAME Top Gear episode that engee posted but did not include: (others above have already mentioned the issue)

Evo X FTW! ;p

Track Tsukuba :

Nissan 370z : 1:06:66
2008 STI : 1:05:95
EvoX : 1:06:46

Oh man the 370z just totally OWNS the STI and EvoX. These cars are comparable on most tracks. The STI and EvoX will dominate on all wet tracks. The STI and esp. Evo will make a none professional driver drive MUCH better then they could the 370z...

^^^^ how does the SST MR slower than the 5speed GSR??!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

from the test's that we had done in the U.S the MR is quicker than the GSR around a timed course.......i dont get it...

If all you wanna compare what car is better, i suggest you learn how to drive before you come to a conclusion on how much better 1 car is than the other. How are you really going to know what car handles better and quicker if you cant drive any of the cars the way it REALLY should be driven.

On ramps and street use wont justify saying the evoX is better than the 08-09 STi in the end. Lap times prove more than saying my car felt better around the onramp than the EvoX etc.

Now comparing power gains to mods, the EvoX wins hands down. If anyone disagrees, pm me and ill show you stage 2 tunes on evoX and STi and you wont believe it.

From personal information that ive seen with me OWN two eyes.

Evox w/ full exhaust and tune =330-350whp
08 STi w/ full exhaust and tune=280-310whp

mod for mod, the evo X has more power.....

What im trying to say, the better driver in the STi will beat the EvoX around a track.

Visa Verse and ETC ETC ETC ETC....

id have to say, comming from a wrx wagon to evoX.....bar none, this car is far more superior than the wagon ever was........Its the AYC and S-AWD that im amazed

To be fair, the EVO the stig drove was the standard EVO. Top Gear gets to drive pretty much every car..... and they don't always pick the fastest car to be their favorite.

People that alleg that the STI isn't competitive next to the EVO X are stupid and in denial., neither outright whoops on the other. However, you'd also be in denial to say that the STI is sharp or otherwise a driver's car out the box. It handles great and has lots of potential, but the stock sways are weak and the steering input suckssss. I own a 2008 STI and with a few mods (still not razor sharp) I really love the car...but the damn thing came with -.37 camber up front..what the hell is that?

I won't lie, I'm jealous and I respect the fact that the EVO X is sharp out of the box (from what everyone says, I havent driven one.) That car just doesn't fit my needs without fold down seats or a larger boot.

When I'm ready for my next performance car I'll be at a point in my life that I can have a DD and a weekend warrior and the number one thing I'll be looking for is a car that is very rewarding to drive and razor sharp over 0-60 or 1/4mile times.

I have nothing bad to say about the EVO, I never have. I think it's a great car. I'm mostly pointing out Top Gear's blatant bias. While the STi certainly isn't as sharp, it has it's own charm about it, and with a few inexpensive upgrades it's very easy to sharpen it up a bit.

I wouldn't buy an evo X... and in fact I wouldn't buy any new car as it depreciates from day 1 too much.

A good deal on a IX would be good! or a used STI

this view is not correct IMO. New X's can be bought for 30K. Used 8's that could be bought for under 30K in the day go for high teens or near 20K that are 4-5 years old. With a new car you know how it's been(ing) driven. Pre-owned EVOs and STI were probably driven hard with suspect mods often the case. Anyway, with a cost of ownership (assuming you would sell it after 4 years for example) of about 200-300 a month assuming historic depreciation I think there is a strong case for gettting the new car with this type of car , though I might argue it the other way if we were talking about a run of the mill camry or accord.

Read evom... most like IX better than X

I can't ever justify paying 30K + for a car, but that's me. But my boyfriend also used to be a mechanic thus if I buy a 2005 car I'm not worried as he can fix it if anything goes wrong.

I bought my evo VIII last May from a kid who probably raced it but didn't find too many problems. I guess you can get burned, but I only paid $16,800 last year which then was a good deal.

Really? You're pretty perceptive. You must have thought you were putting everybody up on something. You don't think everyone here already knows that? With that said, nobody gives a **** about cars depreciating.
