Great news for the celebrities looking to hoof a reasonably priced car around Top Gear's track.

The problem with the G8 is there's no base to make them profitable. For every Chevelle SS there were hundreds of base models out there that have been long since disposed of. How many 'base' G8s are out there, and how base are they with power seats? The G8, like the new GTO before it is all frosting with no cake to hold it up. And that's before you look at the mantra of a muscle car being a big motor put into what otherwise is a stripper base model.

I thought the G8 I saw two years ago at the auto show looked great; I thought the DI 6 and manual transmission was a great step forward in technology. It's a shame it didn't come together like that.

R.I.P. Pontiac always loved their cars. My first car was a 93 Pontiac Bonneville that I got with 145,000 miles. It had been in my family since it was 25,000 miles old, and all we ever had to do to it was the usual stuff, the alternator was the only semi-out of the ordinary part to break. That was, and remains the best car I ever had, sold it with 158,000, and it still ran like a top, burned no oil, and started on the first crank every time, its probably still running. If only GM had kept producing cars like this under the Pontiac badge, maybe they would have survived. Way to fail GM...

And if they must restructure, and reduce their production lines, WHY IS HUMMER STILL BEING PRODUCED?!?!?!!
EDIT: Just read all of the articles attached to this thread, I hope "resolution" means these brands will go the same route as Pontiac.

C'mon now. I had a '93 Ford Escort that I loved and was extremely reliable.. but I'm not going to pretend that it wasn't a POS car. Granted the 3.8L engine in your Bonneville was a great engine for the time (reasonably efficient, reliable, etc).. but the rest of the car is an example of why Pontiac is now gone. Compare it to a '93 Accord. People were leaving full-size cars like the Bonneville for smaller mid-size cars like the Accord during a time of record cheap gas because the quality was so much better for the price.

I know GM went entirely the wrong direction with larger vehicles throughout the 90's and early 2000's, thats the reason why they're in their current predicament. Merely speaking from personal experience comparing my 93 Bonneville to, say, a 2001 Grand Am, Pontiac really let their quality slide.

I had a 92' escort 4-door liftback. Thought it was actually pretty good compared to the then Dodge Shadow and Toyota Tercel I shopped it against. Kept it for 8 years and never had any problems except 1 covered by warranty. Guess you always have fond memories of the first car you bought.

I would say for every G8 GT(V8) I see, I see three more plain G8s(V6).

I've been critical of the G8 previously, but I think it might be my next car.
