Default Car keeps cutting out/stalling help?

So I have this 94 Legacy turbo that some of you might have seen for sale on here recently. Anyways the guy I bought it from thought there might be a leak on one of the y pipe connections so I took off the BPV then intercooler tightened all the connections and put it all back together. Now when I give it gas the car dies and now Check Engine is on. (all electrical still works but car dies) I went back through and re looked to make sure I connected everything. It appears I did. Anyone have any ideas? they would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

can you determine what CEL is causing the check engine light?

SOUNDS like your airflow meter is unplugged, bad, or got a bunch of crap on the sensor wire.....

defiantly an after maf air leak. my 08 was doing that and the very bottom of where the top mount goes into the intake manifold wasn't on all the way and it took me forever to figure it out.

what youre describing sounds exactly how a disconnected bpv or other major air leak. Black07STiGuy has a good idea - check your intake connector thing, and your bpv gasket. maybe it got squished weird.

my car still ran for the most part (like crap) when mine was doing this and everytime i hit boost my car would actually slow down because all that pressure was leaking out of that intake manifold gasket connector thing.

check for cracks in piping/coupling for the intercooler. a decent noticeable sized crack/boost leak would cause the motor to just crank/start then die. a small leak would cause symptoms that you described. this should be your first thing to do.
if anything is found doing this and problem is fixed then alright!

if not... borrow a compatible MAF sensor off a friends car. my car had a bad MAF but didn't pull CEL's regularly.
check to see if this could be your next problem but be careful with this as MAF's from Subaru are generally 200-240 bucks! if yours doesnt work and your buddies good runnin MAF fixes the problem you will need to replace this
a cheap temporary fix would be MAF aerosol cleaner, but i do not recommend it if this is the case.

then thirdly, i would check for spark. maybe fouled plugs or cracked ceramic housing? these can lead to misfire causing your car to run CEL and in "limp" mode causing sputtering/back firing / rough idle / etc.

the OBD scanner can help you greatly, but if you don't have access to that, try some of those out!

hope this helps and hope you figure it out.
-Nick.

I'm having similar problems with my legacy. I haven't checked everything yet, but things I am going to check for are: Bad MAF, IAC valve leak or cracked air hose, then check spark plugs/coils.

Are you familiar with pressurizing the intake and spraying soapy water on the joints to find the leak?
