Default Brospeed Exhaust and a little more...

Well after many months of debate of wether I could afford to maintain a Subaru of any kind has finally ended. Last month I bought a beautiful 1999 Impreza RS - WRB. The car is already lowered with Whiteline spings i believe and STi Version 5 Struts. Hopefully a 17 year old male such as myself won't crash the bitch. (God bless the AWD for the pleasure of me driving fast)

I have a few simple questions on the car setup. I have been following with many many posts on this forum for months and counting, so whatever detailed info you can give lay it on me, plus personal opinions.

Anyway the car also came with a Brospeed Muffler, which I know is an upgrade thru the dealer. Well Everything was all good until we took it home and I really did a full examination of the car without annoying salesman all over trying to say everything is perfect (no offense to salesman I know its all part of the job) and my friend noticed when i reved the engine that the exhaust had a leak or hole in it. We took it in after troublesome scheduling and they found that there was a hole. I have already purchased the car now, so generously they will fix it for free under the 30 day warrenty. When I got it back they fixed the exhaust by just strapping on a stock muffler, new of course, but its just the fact of the matter. Now would any of you guys accept this, cause I am debating of questioning there replacement here. The said "The aftermarket product is unrepairable; replaced with stock exhaust."

Now did I loose gains if any, I hear none come from the brospeed, and also is there an intermediate pipe that comes with the Brospeed setup? And if its possible if they left the pipe on the car? Sounding of the car changed but not too much which is why I question the intermediate pipe still being there.

Thanks for everything and I'm sure you will be seeing more of me wether thats a good or bad thing,

Jason

Congrats on your purchase..

And don't bother with the Brospeed, if you want gains, go with something a lot more freeflowing. Apex'i N1, Borla, etc...much better sound as well.

And oh yea, your car is RBP, not WRB. Unless of course the previous owner repainted it.

According to my Butt-Dyno, the Brospeed is just a noise-maker.

I like the Brospeed... makes nice quiet noises, as you've found they're only a little louder than stock.

But sometimes I wish it was a bit more obnoxious.

Nice thing about the Brospeed is that it looks good, sounds pretty good, and it's a Subaru part, so the cops can't really hassle you about it.

I would ask the dealer to replace like with like.

If you upgrade later, you'll probably get more money for the brospeed versus a stock pipe.

Yeah, I got me one of those at the dealer....I made them put it on the car no charge!

It has a nice sound to it, and prolly picks up a couple of hp....the piping is bigger than stock. I think its only 2" tho....cause when I looked at it compared to my midpipe, it looks smaller! Might even be 1.75" But I DO know that its bigger than stock piping.

But its a pretty high quality peice...looks good, no rust, sounds good, not too loud, but you know its there.

anyone wanna buy/trade?

If the dealer took it off, you should get it back!! BASTARDS!

I measured the Brospeed midpipe, and it was 1-7/8" I.D. The stock midpipe is slightly larger than 1-3/4" I.D.

Thanks for the reply, but is it worth me fighting the dealer over the exhaust. I'm gonna try to get under the car today after I post this to see if they left the Brospeed midpipe. The sound isn't whats bothering me all that much, it's just that they replaced it without telling me it was stock. I'm sure everyone here on this foum would be upset. But how much of a difference in dollars would the two exhausts be? They did gimme a free stock and installation which I was pleased with.

Thanks again,

Jason

I'm not sure if the mid pipe was offerd with the muffler before 2000...
and since it's a 99 and was probably a dealer mod when bought you might not have had a mid pipe.
Did they give you back the muffler?
Maybe you can have it fixed until you upgrade!

Good Luck with your new ride!

More likely one of the service guys took it home and is going to get it fixed. Look for it on eBay shortly.

If you don't care, then don't worry about it. If you're getting something else... don't worry about it.

hmm..
Not liking the idea that a guy might sell that on ebay. Like I said they did fix it for free. But do they give the muffler back to you when they take it off, if you ask? They claimed that it was unrepairable so the just threw the stock on. I guess the midpipe wasn't on, its not so much a big deal to but, if it was repaiable then it might be a different story. I'm kinda unhappy right now the way they just slapped a stock muffler on, I mean it was a used car, but the deal included the muffler and the car working 100%.

I might look into this a little more, it might be worth it to contact the dealer on this one. Its been almost a month since I have had the stock muffler on now, so im sure they wont do a damn thing.
