Default OT: I need info on finding some info

If its one thing I have learned about the almighty OT it is that they can find out anything about anybody. I am looking for some information about a settlement I received when I was a teenager and was involved in a plane crash. This jackass only had personal insurance on his plane and was charging people for rides. After the crash the insurance company was at my door in like a day offering a settlement in hopes that we wouldn't sue them for his negligence.

We accepted because we didn't want medical bills hanging over our heads while we were in court for years. I started feeling better in a few days and thought it was just a pulled muscle or something. In reality it messed my knee up pretty bad and since then its only gotten worse. I can literally only sit for about an hour before having to get up and walk around to kill the pain. I am awakened all night and every morning by the pain.

Its been so long ago I cannot remember any info on the insurance company who gave my family the settlement but I do remember the lawyer saying that after I turned 18 I could pursue it further if need be. He is now nowhere to be found.

I am not out to get rich I just want my knee fixed and don't have good health insurance. Any ideas on how to find any info? Would the hospital I was initially admitted to have any record of this being as they were paid by this insurance company? Would there be a public record of the settlement in my name? Any ideas on how to get some info would be great! Thanks

I would think your parents would have filed something away with contact information. If not there may be a record of the settlement at the courts wherever this took place.

That's all I got, but I suck at this.

But you settled. A long time ago. And you could have had a thorough medical exam but chose not to.

How would you feel if the insurance company came back a decade later and said, "Backsies. Give us all the munneyz."

I thought this as well. But in the OP he states that the lawyer (for which side I'm not sure) said he could pursue it further after 18.

Probably has something to do with the fact that his parents settled, not him.

But his parents settled on his behalf. Just like they made other medical and legal decisions on his behalf when he was a kid.

Sue your parents.

Could be, I'm certainly a lot further from being a lawyer than you Fuzz.

Regardless, it be nice for him to know for sure.

I would think that his parents would have at least saved a copy of the settlement. That should explain any recourse he might have and give some contact info.

Wife's a lawyer, and has been through this as a plaintiff as well. You're screwed. When you settled you or your parents likely signed an agreement stating that they completely fulfilled their obligations to you.
