Eh, I kind of prefer to start the threads for the individual UFC's, people are less likely to get involved in a 300+ post thread. But we'll see how this works.

And some people are less likely to get involved with you because you have BaconAids, but you still get laid...
sometimes, right?

Lets see if we can get lucky.

Looks like a lackluster Silva performance last UFC gift-wrapped a fight package for me...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/...13259&name=mma

Maia / Marquardt set for UFC 102. Had Silva been dominant and there was a good showing from Leites, I dont think this fight would have been made, I think Maia would have got a shot right away.

I am more interested in this fight that Maia/Silva, and I think Marquardt has the best shot to dethrone Silva, as things currenlty stand. Maia will be no easy fight, but I think Marquardt has a good lead on the standup game, and his wrestling skills should allow him to defend and stand back up off the mat.

And for anyone who just wants to see a douchebag get his ass pounded...Jose Canseco vs. Hong Man Choi At DREAM 9

http://www.mmatko.com/jose-canseco-v...oi-at-dream-9/

As far as notable quality action...

DREAM 9, which also features the second round of the organization’s featherweight grand prix and a middleweight title fight between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, takes place May 26th at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
That should make for a great rematch.

This really is why I love this sport. There's so many "what if's" with the matchups. For example, I think Maia beats Marquardt, which means he'd be next in line for the shot against Silva, if Henderson beats Bisping. I think they give Bisping a shot at Silva if he were to somehow KO/tap/win convincingly against Henderson. It's just a bigger name match up, even though I think Maia/Marquardt would deserve it more.

Then there's the whole Silva at 205 thing, since he's fighting Forrest, and all the possible matchups there. Your mind can start to spin when you think of all the possibilities.

Jose Canseco to Collide with Choi in Super Hulk Tournament

Although the featherweights were thought to be the center of attention for Dream 9, parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group has added another tournament focal point on the other side of the scales.

In a true Japanese mixed martial arts-style spectacle, FEG has announced its second tournament series of 2009: an eight-man open-weight competition that includes Major League Baseball bad boy Jose Canseco and has been christened the Super Hulk Tournament.

Four quarter-final bouts are slated for Dream 9 on May 26 at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, pitting fighters of all shapes and sizes against one another.

The opening round of the Super Hulk draw will see middleweight Ikuhisa Minowa play a familiar David role against Goliath Bob Sapp; Pride Fighting Championships and UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will square off with K-1 veteran Jan Nortje; former Dream middleweight titleholder Gegard Mousasi will meet 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix champion Mark Hunt; and South Korean super heavyweight Hong Man Choi will face Canseco.

Minowa (41-30-8) is coming off of a disappointing decision loss to professional wrestling convert Katsuyori Shibata at Dream 8, while Sapp (10-3-1) has not seen action since he stopped amateur wrestling convert Akihito Tanaka -- under his now-infamous Kinniku Mantaro costume -- on New Year’s Eve. Sokoudjou (5-4), loser of three of his last four, was submitted in the second stanza by Renato "Babalu" Sobral at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” in January. The 6-foot-11 Nortje (2-5), despite being stopped in consecutive K-1 bouts by Peter Aerts and Bjorn Bregy, was victorious in his last MMA venture in February 2008, as he stopped fellow tournament competitor Sapp in 55 seconds inside the Strikeforce promotion.

The 23-year-old Mousasi (24-2-1) -- one of MMA’s hottest prospects after his 6-0 blitz in 2008 that saw him take Dream’s middleweight grand prix by storm -- recently vacated his Dream 183-pound throne in order to move up to 205 pounds and beyond. He has not fought since winning the crown by polishing off Melvin Manhoef and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in September. Hunt (5-5), 35, has lost his last four MMA bouts. He was shockingly knocked out by the aforementioned Manhoef in just 18 seconds on Dec. 31.

New Year’s Eve also marked the last action for the 7-foot-2 Choi (1-2), who was chopped down with leg kicks by Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in the first round. Canseco, 44, has never competed in MMA, despite reported backgrounds in tae kwon do and muay Thai. The steroid whistleblower’s most prominent combat sports forays have come in celebrity boxing exhibitions. Canseco was knocked out in the first round of his bout with former NFL special teams maven Vai Sikahema in July and fought to a three-round majority draw with former child star Danny Bonaduce in January. He played for seven teams in his 17-year career in the major leagues and ranks 32nd on the all-time list with 463 home runs.

Dream event producer Keiichi Sasahara did not reveal any additional details on the tournament’s structure and scheduling for future rounds. However, Sasahara did promise a 15.0-percent television rating for Dream 9, the promotion’s first primetime broadcast of 2009 on the Tokyo Broadcasting System. In the promotion’s inaugural year, Dream garnered only paltry ratings in a flagging Japanese MMA market, pulling ratings of 8.9, 10.0 and 9.0 for its three primetime broadcasts. The strongest ratings star of Dream’s last two primetime broadcasts was Yoshihiro Akiyama, who has since left the promotion and signed with the UFC.

The Dream 9 telecast will be supported by a boxing lead-in, which will feature Japan’s most popular combat sports commodity, Daisuke Naito, defending his WBC 112-pound title against China’s Xiong Zhao Zhong. Naito has routinely drawn in the 25.0 rating range since he took his title from Thai rival Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in July 2007. Naito’s last defense, an 11th-round stoppage of countryman Shingo Yamaguchi in December, drew a 25.6 rating on TBS.

Just start with Post Reply...and work your way from there.

But I dont think there will be any real problem with that, If you want to talk about a specific card here in this thread, bold the title UFC XX and start your comments there. People will post opinions/picks and such as normal following that.

These threads never move like wildfire and its not like there will be pages of irrelavent posts between.

In the end though, do as youd like, you can keep starting threads for specific events, (not gonna hurt my feelings - ) and its not like the mods are gonna lock em down cause theres an *official* this or that. We have about a billion iphone/xbox/findmeacar/etc threads that get started everday, and at least half of them have their own specific *offical* resting place.

Wait, I mean, shut up bitch!

Fedor Emelianenko is hands down the best professional MMA fighter alive today. He's simply unstoppable. I am almost convinced that he's a terminator.

Speaking of which, check out the latest interwebz rumor:

Anderson Silva Calls out... Fedor?
April 29, 2009

Anderson Silva obviously isn't concerned about the size of Forrest Griffin. Apparently, a light heavyweight is only a light snack for "The Spider".

Yahoo News reports:

White said that Silva also expressed an interest in fighting heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, who is under contract with Affliction. White has made several attempts to sign Emelianenko, none successful.

Soares (Silva's manager) confirmed that Silva would like a fight with Emelianenko and said that size wouldn’t be an issue. Silva walks around between fights at 215 and Emelianenko fights around 230.

“We’d come in at about 220 if we ever got that fight,” Soares said. “Anderson thinks that would be a great fight for him. He didn’t say he expected to blow him out, but he thinks he can give him a very good fight.”
This would be awesome to watch. But as much as I like Silva and enjoy watching him fight, if this actually goes down, I'm calling it right now: Fedor wins.

One of the best subs I have ever seen. It is absolutely instant highlight reel material.

In the Rossen blog on ESPN, he called it, Submission by Backpack of Doom; quite catchy, I like it!

Jones, Jr. and the Snowball Effect
By Jake Rossen (jrossen@sherdog.com)
Wales News Service/Splash News

Boxing legend Roy Jones, Jr.
Wednesday, 7:05 p.m. ET: The Internet is like a bad game of telephone. You remember that: sit in a circle and whisper something to your neighbor, who does the same. By the time it gets back to you, the message has been mangled.

Stupid game. Never played it.

But the Web does. Somehow, CBS’ report that boxer Roy Jones, Jr. might be willing to engage Anderson Silva in a mixed-style fight has morphed into Jones contemplating a career change.

During a media conference call Wednesday, Showtime Senior Vice President Ken Hershman responded to Nick Diaz’ petition to get Jones for a Strikeforce fight by saying it would “be a very long shot.”

Of course it would. Why would Jones be interested in fighting for Strikeforce? Or against Nick Diaz?

If the Silva story is true, it makes a hint of sense: Silva has wanted to box Jones, and Jones was ready to oblige him. There’s some kind of mutual admiration society at work there. For what I’d imagine would be a spectacular amount of money, Jones appears willing to say the hell with it and fight Silva in a cage. Maybe he sees the historical value in it. Maybe he’s off the rails. Who knows?

Whatever the motivation, how that translates into Jones begging for any MMA fight he can get is beyond me. Silva is regarded by many as a pound-for-pound great, and by some as the absolute pound-for-pound great. If Jones has an itch to do something radical, that’s a guy to get out of bed for.

Nick Diaz, in contrast, was bounced from the UFC for failing to deliver. That’s a precipitous drop in competition. If you’re going to risk losing -- and Jones would be risking big -- then risk losing to the best.

Worse: Even with CBS driving the wheel, Strikeforce doesn’t have the promotional infrastructure of the UFC to make it as big and profitable a fight as it could potentially be. And while Hershman said money wouldn’t be an issue, I imagine it would turn into one quickly -- Jones, loose of marbles or not, isn’t going to get triangle-choked for a few hundred grand and some comped tickets.

But wait. It gets better. "I think it's an insult to the integrity of mixed martial arts to think Roy Jones, or any professional boxer, could just come in and fight Nick Diaz in a mixed martial arts context,” Hershman said. “In a boxing context, it's completely different.”

Gimme a Motrin. This is the same Hershman that colluded with EliteXC and Gary Shaw to employ Z-level brawler Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, whose arenas consisted of freshly-mowed lawns and Miami boatyards. Apparently, grass burns carry more weight in his office than Olympic medals and a “Fighter of the Decade” seal from Ring magazine.

All of this smacks of a guy who knows he’s getting turned down for a date, but anticipates it by saying he wouldn’t bother in the first place.

Gimme another Motrin.
