Default Picking up a 1995 impreza L. Questions

Alright I have a 2002 wrx that I have built for 4 years and know ALOT about this car. I am picking up a 1995 Impreza L 1.8L AWD sedan 5 speed hopefully next week for $750.00. It has 190,000 on the motor and the body is in great shape. I guess I am asking what to look out for in these cars and how to keep the 1.8Ls running a long life. Should I look out for anything? I just want the car for a daily driver. I will not be acting like boy racer or anything going WOT with it I just need to know what go wrong with these cars most. Thanks in advance

Nothing, 1.8l and 2.2l are tanks. Keep them oiled up and change the timing belt at the proper intervals and you'll be fine.

thanks man!! I appreciate it. I am so pumped on getting this because I have wanted an older impreza for awhile now. Is this considered a GC8?

Technically, a GC8 is a 2.0l turbo. Depending on how many doors the car you're looking at has, it will be either a GC or GM; GC=4 doors GM=2 doors. And engines 1.8=2 , 2.2=4 and 2.5=6. So it will either be a GC2 or GM2. But whatever it is, if you say GC then any Subaru dude will know what you're talking about.

I'm sure you've already test drove it but my experiences with classic body style L's is that the shifter is always wobbly, everything rattles, and I've always had a small oil leak. But like Zac86 said, just keep it properly oiled up and it will be fine. Good luck with it, its a very fun car.

GF is the wagon. is is a coupe, sedan or wagon? I have a 2.2 4eat and its fun, 199k on it, runs fine, holds good oil pressure. Just maintain it and it will run longer than u want it too

Thank you for this post. I don't think the general Nasioc public realizes that we never had a gc8 in the USA.

I have not test drove the car yet but I will be Monday. It is a GD2 then. I want to keep the miles off my 300whp bugeye. Plus I show it quite a bit and want to keep all the rock chips off the body kit lol. Thanks for the replys!
