Impreza WRX Need some help planning my improvement path (what to get and when to get them)

Hi folks. I know this can be asked in the newbie section, but after reading several stickies that generally all say that local variables will affect what one is looking for, I figured asking folks who live in the same area I do (and thus similar conditions) would be in a better position to help me out.

I'm looking at PLANNING my modifications to my car, as while I make a decent amount of money, I simply cannot afford to spend it all on my WRX.

Anyway, this is what I would like to do (end goals) to my WRX:

*Tighten up brake response (new cables?)
*Improve handling and chassis (bracing and springs?)
*Improve overall acceleration and horsepower (the power mods....this is where it gets tough)

Yes I've only had this car for a short time, but I've been taking note of its strengths and weaknesses.

I've noticed that at red lights, when the light turns green, I have to give the throttle about 2.5krpms before easing off the clutch, but even then I sometimes still get jerking response as if the rpms are too low. This could just be driver error (my fault) OR it could be something that could be improved. Either way, when this happens, my power to the wheels significantly drops off (almost like I was going from a dead stop in 2nd), and I'd like to improve it.

ALSO, I'd like to improve my car's "punchiness" while on the highway. On the street, it has quite a bit of "punchy" acceleration when I need it (ie. hit throttle, feel immediate and significant acceleration.....very useful for precise lane changes). Dropping to 4th from 5th on the highway helps, but not always, not when I'm trying this at around 70 mph. At 50 mph, dropping to 4th and hitting the throttle works nicely, though. At 70, it just feels like I only get a little more torque and power out of the engine.

Along with the performance modifications/improvements, I know I'll need to improve my ability to slow down. I noticed just how "loose" the brakes feel yesterday when I had to have the WRX in at the dealership for them to install Skyway, and they leant me an '09 Corolla so I could get to work (borrrrring drive with that car). The thing I noticed was the tighter brakes. Not better braking power (can't compare due to performance differences), but the brakes DEFINITELY felt tighter. Like they engaged firmer and sooner on the Corolla. If I upgrade power on my WRX, I want to get my brakes more firm and responsive like the corollas.

With power, I will need to increase suspension and bracing. So, I already know what to do here: front strut cross brace, and lower chassis brace. Both are bolt-ons so all I'd need was someone with a lift for the lower chassis brace, and a torque wrench for both braces to make sure I got the bolts tightened with the proper amount of torque. Where I'd need help is in choosing new springs (if needed at all).

So, those are my end goals. Now, here's what I'm thinking for upgrades, but I would like feedback on my sanity with what I'm planning. What is a good idea, what's a bad idea, what's overkill, etc. for what I'm targeting.

My HP target is between 270 and 300 (basically between the average numbers on the '09 WRX and '09 STi). Not sure what my torque target should be, but I'm hoping y'all can help me there as well as to what would be a good ideal.

Note, my WRX is an '08 SEDAN, not a wagon. That seems to severely limit my options for exhausts, unfortunately.

So, for power mods:
* Single high-flow catted DP
* CBE (looking for something that will allow better flow, not be obnoxiously loud, but still bring out that boxer engine sound)
*AccessPort (for proper OTS maps to get car to the tuner)
*K&N airfilter (any reason I should consider a K&N Short Intake in the phoenix conditions?)
*VF48 or VF52 turbo (needed at all? do I need new injectors and pump even though these are the stock units on the '08 STi and '09 WRX respectively?)
*water/meth injection (I know I will need new injectors for this, but I don't know if what I'm going for is worth the cost, or if this will actually help me save money in the long run)

Handling:
*Lower Chassis Brace
*Front Strut Brace
*STi Springs

What do y'all think? I'm not really wanting to track race this thing, just improve the performance for street and freeway driving (it's good already, but I do feel areas where the performance could definitely be tightened up). I run normal 91 octane pump gas and I mostly stick to driving in just AZ with this car.

Input?

IMHO meth is more of a hassle than a plus on a daily driver. . .

Besides that it requires monitoring the level of the mixture just as much as one's gas tank needs monitoring, what else makes it a hassle?

how do you figure?
i am not sure about the new cars and what it takes to get them to the power level you want... but as far as your braking and handling, you are on the right track with your braces etc and for the brakes get some steel braided lines, and replace the pads/fluid with more high quality items...

What would I look for for "high quality items" when it comes to fluids? To me, brake fluid is brake fluid, and tranny fluid is tranny fluid.....so, what should I get if I do a fluid flush-and-swap?

Also, recommendations on the brake pads?

Thing is I don't know what to look for to determine if a brake pad is a "good" brake pad over factory.

Wirelessly posted (LG Voyager: Mozilla/4.1 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; ) 400x240 LGE VX10000)

Just get Hawk HPS or Carbotech Bobcats and call it a day. They are better than factory. Period.

Your best bet is to come out to some local meets and talk with people. There's a lot of information to cover via posting. Plus you can sit in these cars with these modifications and see how you like them.

If you're in the area, come on out to the SanTan meet. We've got a lot of members with a lot of mods. There's also a vendor and a tuner in our group.
