Default WRX -> STi seat swap questions..

Well I just nearly finished my 02 wrx to V8 JDM STi interior swap (), though I've got a couple questions regarding the airbag system and seatbases..

First off, the infamous airbag light: I've heard of using resistors to fool the airbag system in working correctly (putting 3ohm resisters in the wiring harness I believe was the main idea). My 02 seats were labeled with SRS patches--does this mean that these were equipped with in-seat airbags? I didn't think this was a feature in the early WRXs, though I could be wrong. Moreover, will putting resistors in the wiring harness then fool the rest of the system into working correctly?

Second, now having a RHD passenger seat as my driver seat, while my passenger gets all the height accomodations I'm sitting a bit higher w/o height adjust than I'd like to be. I think I'll get used to the height, though does anyone know if it would be possible to simply swap seatbases with a USDM STi (or other model) drivers seat? I can imagine that this should work fine, though my 02 WRX seatbases don't look like they'll mate up to the 05 STi seat... and does anyone know where I might be able to find a USDM STi seatbase (or does anyone happen to have one?)

Thanks in advance guys

Your 02 does have side air bags - so the resistor mod will work and turn off the SRS light on the dash. As far as seat tracks go you have 2 options. First is to find a V8 or V9 (04-07) USDM STi or WRX drivers seat and switch the base. You have to switch the entire base not just the tracks. It will require removing the seat cover and cushion to make the switch or your second option is to order lowering rails from japanparts.com. FYI - The lowering rails do not have height adjustments.

Yea, I knew it was gonna be more than the rails, and certainly good to know the V9 base will fit as well.

Glad to hear the resistor trick will work as well, now time to find some. Too bad radio shack just has the 3.3k ohms and almost never has what you need when you need it
