Default Just installed my old alpine IVA-W505 on my 09 WRX.

Just installed my old alpine IVA-W505. My first questions is

1. where is the best place to buy the smaller din radio cover so I do not need to use my black trim around the radio.

2. Am does not work for some reason.
3. What is that extra square connector for the stock radio? The nissan harness from the FAQS works fine but there is another harness I left unplugged.

So far with the alpine with the cheap stock speakers sounds very good. Could it be the hatch makes the radio sound better? I have some 6 1/4 speakers and debating if they are worth installing.

Looks great man... I'm not a fan of double DIN screens for security reasons, but to each his own...

I can't help you on 1

2. I think you need to connect the power antenna wire in the harness... IIRC the factory one is powered.. (not up n down, but boosted)

3. can't help either..lol..sorry..

We say a lot here that one of the best upgrades is an aftermarket HU... If you go through the audio setting in the 505, you most likely have crossovers, set a HP to ~60-80hz and while you will lose some low end, the speakers themselves will be far happier..

The 6.5's you have may work, most subies need spacers in the doors for aftermarket speakers though, beware.. They would likely be an improvement over what you have..

That is where I set mine as because it produce the best sound. The HU did made a big difference in sound quality.

My fm radio signal is also is kinda weak. I dont' know what Subaru had done but it seems the stock antenna needs to be boosted. I never had this problem with my other cars but will check into this.

The other connector might be for the sterring wheel controls.

1. JDM AV Panel. Check out JapanParts.com for the trim cover. It'll remove the .5" gap on either side of the HU.
2. If FM works and AM does not it's either the unit or the boosted signal off the antenna. Not sure, sounds strange...
3. The extra connector could be the iPod kit or even the factory sub. Got a picture of the connector?

The factory Coax in the front doors is actually 6 1/2", so a 6 1/4" would be a downgrade.

This pic is from the other post. It's the smaller connector. I wonder if it's kind of a signal booster for the antenna. I'm getting FM signal but I realize for the further away station it is not that clear. Perhaps I should just buy an aftermarket antenna booster instead of trying to power the factory stuff.

Damn Thought I was the only one with a 505.

1. Dont Know.
2. Connect the power ant. to the blue/white wire on ur alpine. It should be a blue wire if you used the Metra/Sosche wiring harness.
3.You dont need it. I left it unpluged it all works fine.

I have Alpine IVA-W 505 Powered by Alpine PDX 5. Powering Alpine Type R Components up front 6 1/2 and Coax 5 1/4 in the rear, With a Type E Sub.

I do have a Problem with my Cruise control not working, my TPMS light is on as well as hill assist off light.

I just let those plugs hang. No problems. They were for the stock radio anyway, so it doesn't matter. You're not going to hurt anything by not using them.

Also, don't bother with the blue/white wire that's already there. Connect your amp turn-on to the blue/white wire coming from the Alpine HU.

Huge oversimplification. For one, many companies "cheat" on diameter and comparing two numbers without any knowledge of the cone area isn't going to be accurate. Second, a minor amount of increase in excursion can overcome the decrease in cone area. And finally, I would eat my hat if you could tell the difference between two otherwise identical speaker with a minor variation in diameter.

I haven't heard the 09 stereo system, and I don't have a clue what speakers you have, but I'm willing to bet that you have a good shot at improvement.

The car does indeed have an antenna booster amp.

On the Nissan install harness (which you connected to your car's factory radio harness), the Blue/White wire goes to the Subaru's antenna booster activation (the reason the wire is Blue/White instead of plain Blue is that on a Nissan that pin is used for a speaker amp remote-on).

If your aftermarket HU has a Blue wire ("power antenna"), connect to that. Otherwise connect to the HU's Blue/White (amp remote-on). The Alpine IVA-W505 has both, so use the Blue wire.

The car's square, 8-pin connector has pins for the Aux input. On other models/years, it also has wires for SWCs and "Night Illumination Dimness cancellation" (from the "Bright" button on the clock). See my HU FAQ thread for info.

Over simplification, but cone area matters. Just like the expression no replacement for displacement. If you like strong mids, a larger cone area will win out assuming similar quality. I'm running 6 3/4 and YES there is a big difference over my previous 6.5's, plus 6 1/4 is just an awkward size.

Anything pretty decent is generally better than the factory speaker system. Even though they've gotten better, the factory speakers still aren't that great. They aren't so bad as to blow when you install an aftermarket HU, I'd think, but they don't sound that great either.

Thanks everyone. I'll check if the blue/white is connected to the blue wire on back.

You're missing my point. Unless you are comparing two identical speakers, minus the cone diameter difference, the other speaker characteristics are going to overwhelm the minor cone difference.
