Default Brullen Cat-Back and muffler installed today, some comments and questions

I installed my Brullen cat-back and muffler today (still have cat and headers to go ), so I'll comment on it. Excellent craftsmanship, excellent welds, overall it looks great. Install was easy, removing old exhaust was the hardest part. I turned it on, and oh man, what a sound. I only drove a mile or two since I put it on, but it pulls somewhat harder to redline. Headers and cat will add tons more pull. I had some quick questions, though..

I didn't use the springs on the bolt from the cat, should I have?

Because it seems I have a leak down where the cat and cat-back connect (I can hear it through the floorboards). I didn't use the bolts that came with the exhaust, would that help it? And do I not use the springs also? I used all the OEM bolts.

Thanks. I'll post a bigger write up when I finish it all.

You know that is the first description of a muffler that I can really understand. I mean I know what a Harley sounds like... Now I don't think I would want medium... Quiet is for me.. Thanks a lot hehehe

Hehe yeah. In retrospect, I probably would have gotten quiet, but oh well. Medium kicks. I imagine quiet is like, double what stock is in sound. My neighbor has a old harley that he revs up for 5 minutes before he leaves (no idea why) and my car definately has that sound volume.

I got it from GTBGUY on the boards for $1425 with 2.5" catback. Great guy, recommend him. He's a Brullen vendor.

Hehe GTB. I went for a 10 o'clock cruise, I hope I didn't wake people up I can hear it from the center where the cat and midpipe connect, which I don't think is right. I didn't put the springs in when I connected it up, though. I only installed the midpipe and muffler today, Sunday is header and cat.

Could I be hearing this because the pipes aren't the same diameter (because I have 2.5" midpipe)? I don't smell any gases, just new-exhaust smells, so I don't I have a leak, just a "sound leak". Maybe the Brullen cat will fix the problem from lots of sound in the center. Thanks again, Jack.

When u go to put the cat on, put those springs on the bolts. You're suppose to use those.

Hmmm...

My 3" Brullen dual 3.5 resonated tip system is very quiet in my RS-T, and I got medium. Do you think the turbo is muffling a lot of the sound?

I love mine!!!

Larry,

I do think the turbo will act as a muffler of sorts. Not a great one but one none the less.

Deus,

Let us know what you find as I have been looking into a brullen system and been trying to decide between med and quiet. I don't want my car to be as loud as a harley!

Okay, after putting the springs on and fixing the leak at the cat and catback, its quite a bit quieter. It doesn't sound like a Harley, it has the volume of probably a newer motorcycle like a Kawasaki or something (I don't know why I use motorcycles, probably because they're usually the loudest things on the road) but it has a great deep rumbling sound. It doesn't wake the neighbors.

Then I guess I will get the Medium then...

And you are right, motorcycles are generally the loudest things around that (I think) almost everyone can associate with.

jetfan8178 - you got it during the 100 header GB, and hence it was cheaper. If someone wanted to do another 100, then yup, it'll be that cheap as well.

does it make a popping noise when you rev it up then get off of it (I think it's called afterfire)? (I like that sound...)

When I figure out my employment future, I may just have to place an order for a cat-back exaust...

And I like the comparing to motorcycle volume... Saying it sounds like a honda (or doesn't sound like a honda) isn't very descriptive...

Jhonas - Yes it does pop, I'm nursing it along to make sure everything's all tight, I need to loctite in an extra O2 bung and its raining at the moment, so I haven't revved it high, but I heard when you bounce it off redline, shift, it pop-pop-pops while you're at WOT, or something like that. Look for a full review of the headers and everything when I tighten everything up and get that loctite on, should be a day or two.
