I had this same problem with my 07 2.5i. Check under the dash on the drivers side right above the brake pedal. There you will find a little black box with a button that pops out when your brake is depressed and when you release it, it goes back in. The little black box i had just stopped working so i took it into Subaru dealer and they replaced it. If your car is still under warrenty then the replacement is free but if its not i dont think that part would cost to much money.....but you never know cause OEM crap is exspensive!!
