Default 05 2.5rs Stalls when push clutch in if cold & idle question

Hey Guys,
I just got my fiance a 2005 2.5rs... it has 30k miles and the following mods already done to it:
Stromung Catback
Headers
10ga grounding
K&N filter (snokus removed)

I have a couple of questions for ya.....

1) the car idles at like 600 rpms and there is a slight/constant variation w/ the idle, it doesn't move the tac at all, but you can hear it if you open the hood and watch & listen. It doesn't sound like the idle is too low, it sounds great.

Is the slight variation normal, or is that a result of the intake/exhaust mods?

Is my idle too low?

2) Also if the car is cold (not given 2 min to warm up) and it is driven, it will stall when you push the clutch in on a decel (ie, slowing from 3000 rpm and pushing the clutch in say when coming to a turn or stop sign). Once in warms up (2min) it never does it again. It is like it can't balance the air fuel in time.

Does this have to do with my idle, or perhapse something with an 02 sensor (the exhaust mod?)

3) And sometimes it takes a second or 2 for it to start when the key is turned over, like the fuel is up the line a little ways. (like: er, er, er, er,..vroom)

Are all of these related?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Russell

stock idle is 650.

my car's idle used to fluctuate - when it was stock. it would go up what seemed like 200 rpms for a minute and then drop back to 650, repeat every few minutes.

everything else, dunno.

have you recently disconnected the battery or turned off a check engine light? Happened to me when I did both but went away after about a day or two. I would be driving on the highway and hit the clutch when getting off an exit and if I held it to ling the car would die. I think it was the ecu relearning. If it happens for more than a day or two it might be something else. You could also try going through the drive cycle to see if that helps. I believe it is that you want to have roughly a half tank of gas, give or take alittle, and drive I over 65 for 10 minutes then drive 55 for 3 minutes. It may not be exact but easily found online. I did that and it fixed mine

Find someone in your area with a Tactrix or VagCom cable and ask them to pull a LearningView of your car and post the result here. I have a feeling your idle fueling is messed up. When the car is cold, the front O2 sensor is being ignored. This allows the AFR to be off enough that the car stalls. As soon as things warm up, the ECU starts using the front O2 sensor to keep the AFR in check and the car will idle.

Just a theory, but if you have a large A/F Learning #1 A, then that's pretty much confirmation.

For that matter, check for vacuum leaks.

Matthew,
I probably should have mentioned that! Yes, I was ajdusting the clutch and under the steering column I saw 2 disconnected green wires.... I connnected them (now i Know what they are and that they aren't ment to be connected) and the CEL came on, so I disconnected the battery to try and reset it. Then I did some research and disconnected them and everything was okay... but it was right after that that I had the clutch/idle problem.

My fiance has been driving the car the last couple of days and says it is better now, but she has been giving it a couple of min to warm up. I will give it a try tonight when I get in from work.

Williaty,

That is exactly what I was thinking.... but the car has brand new 02 sensors.... If it doesn't get any better I will track someone down up here to pull a learning view.

I really appreciate you guys posting up! Nothing worse than picking up a "new-to-you" car and thinking there might be a problem!

No problem man glad I could help. When it happened to me I thought something serious was wrong also. Once it stops doing it, it does not happen again unless you disconnect the battery or reset the ecu again.

Sweet! Well I guess problem solved. I just called the misses and she took the car for a ride without letting it warm up, and sure enough everything was kosher!

Thanks for the input everyone! Once again, an ode to a great forum.

Thanks Matt!

williaty this is more for you but anyone can answer. the issue i had today seems similiar to what was originally posted. So pls let me know if i am having the same issue. I installed an AEM sRI yesterday and it ran good, sounded good and such. I drove it for like 30 miles afterwards and had no problem. This morning on my way to work it stalled a few times, but only when i punched the gas (soon after i thought it was warm). i guess i was happy abt it and i just wanted to hear the sound of it. before reading this post i did thought to myself it was because it was cold. is this correct? and also can someone once and for all let me what they think abt a BOV.

You might also want to try looking in the forced induction section.
