Because people keep paying it. I refuse to, which is why I don't own a GC. You can get a swapped one for what people want for a 150k stock 99-01.

The dealer buys, repairs and then sells cars. I've seen a few who do this on CL.

Awesome world we live in, eh?

thank you! no way i payed that much lol. just going off of what everyone else is selling theirs for with salvage titles. dont need the money, just dislike the car. figure someone is looking for one. maybe i'll just swap my sti into it and sell?

maybe we should post every single bugeye that's posted for more than 8k on here..since that's all they're worth at excellent value with less than 100k.

If a bugeye is worth 8k than how could a 2.5rs be even close to that? I'm not bashing you, I haven't even seen your ad or car, I'm just trying to figure out the logic behind it.

Bugeye is turbo, newer, has a better interior, way faster. I drove a 2.5rs before I got my WRX and while it is the best looking Subaru, the performance is nothing special. Great car to swap, but in it's stock form it is simply underwhelming performance wise. Put a couple thousand into a WRX and you can get respectable numbers but it takes a swap to make the rs fast. I would pay maybe $5000 for a pristine 120k rs but in reality that price limits you to rebuilt titles, leaky headgaskets, and 200k miles.

I completely agree that bugeye prices are just as stupid. 12k for a 100k mile car because it has "stage 2 mods" and rotas.

Everyone is overicing their cars. No different from a gc. If stock bugeyes. Are being sold for thousands over what they're worth for being stock there is no difference.
I don't think my posted 8k obo is too terrible, if I'm going to get lowballed anyway being the only one on cl who has a clean title. One just sold on here for 7200 being rebuilt and stock.

While I'm not going to comment on whether or not I think the GM/GC body style is worth the prices that people are currently paying (and subsequently, the prices at which they are listed), I will give you this to think about:

USA Production Numbers of 2002-2003 5-Speed WRX Sedans Only:
~30,500

USA Production Numbers of ALL 1998-2001 2.5RS models (Sedan, Coupe, 5-Speed, Auto):
~14,000

Now if you want to make the contrast even more apparent, let's break it down to the 99-01 5-Speed Coupes (they seem to be most in-demand):
~5900

So just at the outset, there is a HUGE disparity in basic availability of a clean 5-Speed GM6, versus a clean 5-speed GD2. The prices are just supply and demand at work.

Aside from that, the GM/GC models are considerably lighter, and offer an arguably more raw driving experience than the GD, which many people view as more desirable.

My GC is hands down a better driving car all around than any of the other 3 Subarus I have owned, including a highly modified STi. I'm not sure I see the price going down that much if you can find a nice clean GC. If you can get 8K for it Oly Kenji than by all means do so. Info below copied from northursalia.com

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these look remarkably like they're not STI wheels nor do they look like a BBS design.

NVM looks like they're from a 1999 V5 STI
