Default What is and how much is a Thule "fit kit"?

So I found a great deal for a thule roof rack and two bike accessories but the "fit kit" is for a chevy impala. The load bars and the 400XT Aero feet would fit my 2007 WRX Sedan.

I'm guessing the impala fit kit would need to be swapped out for the 206 fit kit that is suggested for a WRX. But what I'm wondering is...

-what is a fit kit?
-how much will it cost?
-is it necessary to fit on my car

I looked all over thule and through the spare parts, but I could not find anything on just buying this fit kit. Any help on where to find one would be great. And this will be my first roof rack, so I'm pretty bad at figuring out all the parts. Thanks.

This may not be much help, but have you tried calling Thule. I am sure one of their reps could point you in the right direction if they wanted you to buy their product.

The fit kit is what they use to attach the bars to each individual car. My wife's Intrepid takes a different kit than my Impreza's factory rack. They are custom designed for each type of car so they are pretty specific. You can find out what kit to buy by visiting this site: http://www.thuleracks.com/fitguide3/fg_vehicle.asp

It is probably easiest to go to a bike shop to buy these, although you could get them from a site like this outdoor supplier I live near, Kittery Trading Post: http://ktp.com/allbrands.php/l/T/bid/59/dept/353

The fit kit is the rubber pieces that are specific for your model of car so that the feet of the rack fit flush

...along with the metal 'clip' pieces that fit the particular contours of your car that hold the rack to your car.
