Default Mod a wrx or sti

when I sell im hoping to have no less than 14k and within a year have an addition 2 grand so should i get a wrx and lightly mod it or wait for a cheap Sti. I really like the appeal of 300hp and the 6sp and the overal feel of an sti, but i could make a more custom ride out of a Wrx. any input in appreciated.

IMO you should get a STi if you have the money, if you cant afford it get a WRX it is still a great platform . Remember if you get a STi you will be sitting home on the weekends 90% of the time saving money to mod it, just like me right now .

Wait, you say you like the "appeal of 300hp and the 6spd" but then you say you like "the feel of an STi", so you're question is somewhat confusing. Have you driven a STi or not?

A WRX will never be an STi with out a lot of money and a lot of hard work, but it is still a great platform. Almost everyone who has spent the time and money putting STi parts into their WRX wishes they would have just started with an STi.

Also, how would a modded WRX be any more custom than a modded STi? IMO putting OEM Subaru parts into another Subaru isn't a custom modification.

the feel of an sti as in how i like what it is as a car but if i buy an sti i wont have any more money for any upgrades, and 16k is a pretty cheap sti but by modded wrx i can go with rims suspension any engine mods so i consider that more custom thats why im asking the question to see how others feel about it

If you're on an immediate budget, then start with a bugeye (2002-2003). You can pick one up now-a-days for $7k-$9k pretty easily. This still leaves you $4k-6k in mod money which can go a long way if you use it right.

Get the STi. My heavily modded WRX did not equal the Stage 2 STi that I have now. I wish that I had made the switch sooner.

imho if you plan on modding too much, STI. already comes with better tranny right off the bat which is something you would def have to upgrade to if you build up a wrx too much.

i know over time the sti is a better choice but with a fairly limited amount of money i wondering what to do the 6 sp is very appealing and its whats heavily on my mind when thinkin about how i dont really want to end up replacing a 5sp soon my mods on the wrx wouldnt be that much something to give me more power obviously prob around 300 if i can but still not sure

what kind of driving do you do? a 300whp wrx can be had and last a long time even with a 5sp if you know how to shift smoothly and still be within your budget for exterior mods such as wheels etc..

IMO, if you are on a very limited budget, save up a little longer and get a late model STi. You will be able to enjoy the power and braking package capibility immediately rather than wrenching to custom meet your specs.

If you get a WRX, you're gonna wish you had a STi

If you get a STi, you're gonna wish had money (don't forget about ins.)

It pretty much boils down to what you love more...

The sheer THRILL of a STi or money?

If you're after a sedan, just buy the STI and be done with it. That being said, you will mod it whether you get a WRX or an STI. I promise that.

If you're about maximum performance, the STI is a great platform to start with. If it's about the thrill of the build and about changing this and tweeking that, maybe the WRX would satisfy you just as much imho. Especially with the 2.5 wrx's. And you'l save a lot of money over the sti which you can use to mod with.

But, you cannot build an STI out of a wrx. Too costly, too many differences.

i did what u are trying to debate. I first had a 02 bugeye, sunk lots of moneys in it and overall ended up just getting a 06 sti. And my STI right off the dealer parking lot would blow the doors off my bugeye... GET A STI!

rims ok, upgraded suspention is a dead giveaway that they were driving it...well...the way everyone drives an sti, lol. get one at a dealership with a warranty because a 16k sti is probably gonna break. my 21k sti did.
